I think Lampley's voice has become an identifying signature of our sport. My one major issue with Lampley is that he calls punches that don't land! Does anyone else see this??? He tries to make the fights sound more dramatic than they usually are.
I could it better in person, that and when Larry Merchant gives us a stupid story that usually only has 10% to do with boxing, before the match, you can always tell when he's about to do it, he looks directly into the camera, and thats the cue for the camera man to do the close up, I remember one time he was talking about Mickey Mantle, and somehow turned it into a boxing analogy of some kind, Merchants classic as well.:good
Excellent. Old Yeller Style? **** yeah. I'm partial to old drunks myself but something is just appealing about ole larry taking that long walk out beyond a rusting shed in the backyard followed by the boom of a double barrel. I'd take the foam off a few brews in rembrance.
