If you could go back in time and watch a fight live what would it be?

I wouldn't like to go back too far say like 1900s, just because i'm so used to modern boxing. I don't think i'd get as much enjoyment out of boxing then which would seem very dated.

But as for the thread i would of liked to of watched any of SRR fights at Welterweight when he was in his prime.

March 17, 1919, Jack Britton KO9 Ted Kid Lewis.

Jack Britton was not a puncher. He could not punch. He was a genius, and if he had the hitting power of Robinson, he'd have been Robinson. This was a flawed genius.

Ted Kid Lewis had an iron jaw. Iron. He was stopped six times in well 300 fights. Carpantier KO'd him with one punch weighing 175lbs to Lewis's 155, though he was a natural welter. In his prime, only one other man knocked him out and that was Britton. How? Essentially, because he had to. He had lost the title to Lewis in a legit points decision in 1917. Lewis gave him another shot in 1918 - but in a nodecision bout. What this meant was the title could only pass back to him via KO. Newspaper decisions held no bearing on titles. Britton is generally credited with the decision. Two months later, another contest, again it was a No Decision. Lewis then made his nemesis wait a year but Britton didn't go away, and so they met again in a No Decision.

This would be the most important fight of the greatest rivalry in fistic history and Britton found a way to turn his powderpuff punches into blows that would unpick an anvil jaw and bring his title back to him. It's a kind of magic, really.

Britton made Lewis wait until 1919 for another legit decision shot at the title  He won that one handily too. That was the gumshield fight.

Your explanation makes me wish I could be there too! Britton is right up there with Greb, Rosenbloom, Jenkins, the original Joe Walcott, and a few others as far as fighters I wish we had film of.

I was with a friend and his Father, fortunately no bottles hit us and we had no fights on the way out.
I can't say we saw many independent scuffles, just a general atmosphere of belligerance.
I think some Minter fans thought Hagler had butted Minter to cause the cuts,of course he hadn't, he was just to good for our boy.

    Foreman-Frazier.

Location equally as important as the fight itself.
