If you could resurrect one fighter or restore one to prime age, to throw in there with the current HW lot, which one would you choose and why would you.
Unless he was on PEDs and did weights he wouldn't even compete at Heavy. And if he by some miracle was allowed to compete at Heavy at 180 he'd probably wouldn't get that far.
Who would have the specific tools which would have the best chance in exposing say someone like Haye, K1, K2
Lets go with a 79 or 80 version of Mike Dokes. The one that flew around the ring and had legs as fast as his combos, not the heavier version that planted his feet. I think that guy is a big problem. Fast hands/top notch whiskers at the time/big heart/legs/constant combos--never a single punch. Just would make for a tough guy to break down and a tough guy to get in that comfy zone against. The heavier version does not work and he would have spent the whole night in their comfy zone and been stopped or lost a lopsided decision. Haye for certain is in lots of trouble and he'd test the Klitschko's and at least make them dig deep.
It would have to be Ali, just to see if he really is the greatest at heavyweight, followed closely by, Johnson, Liston and Langford all in closely behind. Louis to show that he could take out bigger men, maybe not the klitschkos, but certainly everyone else. Johnson to see if his defensive wizardry for his time was good enough for today's standards. Liston to prove the people wrong that think he is a top 10 heavyweight. Langford, to test the theory that the likes of himself of, greb and a few others would get beaten the **** out of by modern fighters or not which could be the case. Also Ike gets an honoury mention, just to see how good he really was. Although the division is limited, if he could beat both Vitali and Wlad, whilst dominating the division would certainly bode well for him and his h2h abilities.
As much as I'd love to have the cance to see Duran, Monzon, Hagler, SRR, Henry Armstrong in action today, I'd have to go without a doubt in my mind, with Harry Greb, no footage of him boxing, I really would love to see him in action. Followed by Benny Leonard, to see him and in prime would be awesome.
I think Burley, Holman, Greb, Wills or Langford, to see how good they were I'd want to watch his fights with Classic forum Dempsey fans for LOLz They'd probably say someone messed the DNA up and didn't include the Toledo gene
My first thought is Ali; Truth be told.. based on Ali's own performances.. he might not make it past Haye to get to Wlad.. Of course I give him a better shot then 50/50, but Ali has shown to have issue with smaller faster fighters.. and at times been dropped by looping punches. That being said.. then Wlad would present him with his other biggest challenge... someone with a very good jab.. except this time Ali will be the smaller one in the ring.. unlike MANY of Ali's fights during his career. Now with that being said.. Dempsey, Marciano, Louis, George Foreman are all honorable mentions I would still be ecstatic about. Heavyweights would start training for speed over power... instantly. Instead of the the majority doing it the other way around.
They wouldn't though, with your analysis you throw boxing technique and sports science out of the window and often ignore contemporary reports of boxers styles and abilities Dempsey could maybe beat a few HW contenders today, he could easily lose to many and would be dominated by the Klits, Haye probably beats him, Chisora probably beats him unless he bulks up. Dempsey would be a weakling today at HW
Oliver McCall of Lewis #1 would have always smashed Lewis , Vitali , Wladimir , Louis and probably 4man , Holmes and Ali as well .
They would have been best friends with Winky and Forrest. "WNT Promotions" - Who Needs Them Promotions.
