George Foreman v Muhammad Ali - 31/10/74 in Antarctica

500,000 penguins in attendance to see George Foreman defend his title in Antarctica against former champ Muhammad Ali.
The ring is a skating rink, and the ropes are made out of icicles. Rumour has it that Angelo Dundee was trying to melt them ahead of the fight. After various snowballs being thrown,Ali knocks Foreman out at 2.58 in the eighth round.
Flash forward 37 years and conspiracy theories still abound that Ali only won because Foreman throwing punches, that did n't connect, froze him up,and George would have made a succesful defence,if the bout had been held somewhere warmer, such as Africa,Mercury or Venus.

Mate Parlov 'retaining' his title against John Conteh in 1978. I maintain to this day that Parlov received a hometown decision. Even though John was n't at his absolute best,he still won by a substantial margin,in my book.

Vince...this is uncanny - when I saw the title of this thread I thought of Ali-Norton 3, for the reasons you describe.

    Closely followed by Hagler-Leonard.

The second Dempsey/Tunney fight when Dempsey dropped Tunney and the referee didnt start the count until Dempsey walked to a neutral corner, thus allowing Tunney about 17 seconds on the canvass to recoup his senses. But in the last round Tunney floored Dempsey
and the referee immediately started counting, while Tunney was hovering over Dempsey. If Dempsey had kod Tunney [if tunney beat the 10 count],heavyweight history would have been completely different, ala Jack Dempsey...

Tyson v. Douglas. Would have then saw a rematch in the states, and probably Tyson - Holyfield when both were in prime condition. Or likely Tyson-Holy mega fight first, then the Douglas rematch. If only Meyran had counted 10 seconds in ten seconds when Douglas was down, that might have happened. Instead, we saw Tyson-Tillman, Tyson-Stewart, then the Tyson-Ruddock fights (both of which I'm glad about), and by that time, Tyson got into trouble with Desiree Washington and then got injured preparing for Holyfield. But I think if Tyson had won against Douglas, the timetable for Tyson-Holy would have been moved up more and the fight would have happened. Then the winner might have taken on Douglas, if that had not happened already.
