I would break the case of, "Why don't we have any footage of Elmer Ray?"

Preferably with the help of four other posters, three humans and a talking dog (@NoNeck).

    Mainly 2.

If there really was a combine between Hagler and Leonard in 1987. It is always a delicate subject, I have heard different opinions even from people who knew both well and I would like to know if there is any truth to it. I say this as a person who appreciates both of them very much and considers them two great champions.

The second is why there is no footage of the 5 matches between Harry Greb and Gene Tunney. I know, this is wrong to call it a mystery, it is more of a great disappointment not to be able to watch the fights that saw these two extraordinary champions face each other.

I’d like to see solved the cause of death of Babilah McCarthy, a West Coast welter fringe contender (his career got off to a losing start and then he went 14-3 through one stretch to move up to No. 6 in the WBC, his losses kind of a who’s-who of the division at that time).

His body was discovered in a lake after going missing, too decomposed to run tests. He had I think recently been arrested (can’t recall the charge) and had lost a few crucial fights so may have been despondent. Could also have been an accident. No foul play was suspected.

What do you mean by ‘a combine’ between Leonard and Hagler?

This is why I don't bring it up when arguing Foremans GOAT case though its a very relevant factor. Can't prove it and it turns into a case of he said, she said.

In soccer there was a similar incident with Branco though there he was directly given it by the other team on video so those accusations had more to stand on.

Let me explain better. According to some, that match was a fraud, that is, Hagler and Leonard had agreed to do 12 rounds of 'exhibition' and the verdict had already been written before the match.

In my opinion that match was close overall, Leonard did better in the first part of the Fight and then there was the return of Hagler. In my card I had 115 - 113 Leonard, no theft his victory but 118 - 110 is certainly to be rejected and does not reflect what was seen in the ring.

I can not say that match is a fraud, I have no evidence to do so. If Hagler fanboys do it I do not listen to them, but I have heard good journalists raise this doubt.

Let me help solve some of it… No he didn’t throw the fight, Ali pivoted off to his left and hit Liston coming in with a short right, he got up to resume fighting and Walcott waved it off, poor reffing no Mafia fix lol. He OD’d on Heroine, if he was scared of needles and recently got the courage (Heroine addiction helps cure that phobia) he likely just overestimated how much you can stick in your arm - if you shoot as much as you smoke well… His wife didn’t call the police straight away so she didn’t get in trouble for all the “stuff” likely laying around, she was probably hiding things, similar situations like that happen all the time.

Thanks for clarifying. Haven’t heard that particular ‘conspiracy theory,’ but I do remember at the time when Duran quit vs Leonard some people were saying ‘they just did that to set up another rematch for even bigger money’ — which made no sense because it made Duran almost untouchable for a time … who would put down good money to see a guy who might quit on you? The rematch eventually did happen, but nobody plays a long game for that long.

I thought Cosell was good for boxing -- until he got disgusted and started berating the sport. There were fights he covered well. Liston-Martin, for one.
