Randall-Chavez 2 - that was cruel. Lockridge-Gomez - a blatant hometown decision. Need to watch Holmes-Spinks 2 to review scoring (@mrkoolkevin Heavyweight Fight of the Week nomination?). Wouldn't change the others mentioned, particularly the super close ones that could have gone either way as it's not really righting a wrong, it's just changing the result for personal preference.
Thanks. Agreed 100% w the Forrest fight. If my memory holds up that was an outright robbery, right? I liked both fighters and haven’t rewatched it since it happened...but remember being really pissed off about that one. Definitely some good shouts in this thread... Mayweather-Castillo - I wonder how much, if at all, this result would have changed the history of the sport. Would we be in this current trend of undefeated fighters not fighting each other just to preserve their padded records?? I wonder. Then the obvious Leonard-Hagler. How are both fighters legacies viewed if this one swings the other way? Ditto for the Greb-Tunney rematch and the Pacquiao-Marquez fights. Whitaker vs the world haha Tapia-Ayala II Fenech-Nelson Mancini-Camacho Hagler-Antuofermo.....all really good shouts.
It was cruel as hell...truly made me angry....I was swearing at the tv...and I lost respect for Chavez, Mexico, and whole ball of wax, frankly.
Far from the worst decisions of all time but since I would want to use my powers for the most impact, I would change: Marciano - LaStarza Mayweather - Castillo Holmes - Williams Honorable mention: Louis - Walcott
I agree with Louis Walcott . I wrestled with putting that on my list. It would have been number 4. Clean win for Walcott
DLH-Sturm (one of the worst robberies of all time that few ever cared about) Hagler-Leonard (This one bothers me the most. Leonard pulled off one of the greatest con jobs of all time. Hagler did enough to win the fight even though Leonard won the event.) Holmes-Spinks II (Larry won this going away but got payback for jockstrap comments)
Michael Dokes vs Mike Weaver - A Weaver rematch with Coetzee in America would have been better than there first battle. James Toney vs David Tiberi - Just once i would like a fighter brought into lose get the dec. Roy Jones vs Park Si Hun - A Gold Medal chance only comes every 4 yrs.
Whitaker vs Ramirez #1 Whitaker vs Chavez, A blind could see he was robbed both times, Holmes vs Spinks#2 .
To a point yes but today they don't even try to hide it. The State Commissions are todays Mob & mafia. Theychange their own rules to suit their favored fighters. Ignore blatantly corrupt officiating or rather orchestrate it Will we ever see a 100% fair title fight again ??
Armstrong-Garcia for the version of the middleweight title was a great call. Harada-Famechon I. Makes Harada a three weight champion in the classic divisions. Ortiz-Loi II. Ortiz was flat out robbed in that fight and it would scrub the only statistical black mark from his great CV. I can think of a few more that would drastically alter a fighter's standing for the better. Rodriguez in the 3rd and 4th Griffith fights. Gavilan against Saxton and Olsen. Borkhorsor against Herrera.
People are naming some fights that were either not robberies, or we can't prove that they were robberies. Would you really want to change the result of a fight, where the decision was within reasonable discretion?
Norton vs Ali 3 is one I wish had gone the other way as Ali may have retired if Norton had gotten the nod. If so Ali would have avoided the beatings he took against Shavers, Spinks 1 and Holmes which may have had a positive impact on his future health. Hamada vs Famechon 1 is a great pick, Jel. Harada won that fight and as you said he would have been a 3 division champion at fly, bantam and feather which is an incredible achievement. Then they could have had the rematch in Tokyo and Fammo could have regained the title Castillo vs Mayweather 1 is my third ( although it was aa close fight ) as it would have changed boxing history and all the hype about Floyd’s “ 0 “ would never have happened. Marciano vs La Starza 1 ( another close fight evidently ) is similar in that regard. Cheers All.
Interesting thought. I just have my doubts that Muhammad Ali would’ve retired if he had lost a decision. I almost think it would’ve taken a knockout or beaten soundly. Perhaps then with Norton beating him and Foreman in the wings maybe . .? I just don’t know. It seems that when it comes to Muhammad Ali they always talked about that “One Last Hurrah!” On the other hand if he hadn’t taken all the damage perhaps he could have pursued other options. Broadcasting or even acting may have been more viable options but it hardly think he was a fighter. On the other hand I legitimately believe that Norton had earned the decision. Larry Holmes versus Michael Spinks II. I like the ramifications of that one! Perhaps Larry would’ve hung around a little longer and we could a better version of Tyson vs Holmes and a better unification fight for Tyson’s early run. On the other hand, Larry bored me, and it was time for him to go. Jimmy Young vs Ken Norton. I can’t help it! I am a Jimmy Young fan! Not only do I think he got a job but I think it lead to Jimmy Young’s downfall. Allegedly that is when he began to use cocaine. Perhaps it was inevitable?
