Ray Robinson was better, I have no doubt about that, at least when he was a welterweight at 110-1-2 he was. He was far more slicker and much more a boxer than Greb by all accounts, from the film of Greb sparring O'Brien I couldn't think of two fighters more poles apart in style and most observers call ray a boxer/puncher. SRR was the bigger puncher, physically their build is very similar, neither carried a gram of fat, were both in magnificent shape in their prime. Harry I think was a brawler but not without a fair dose of science. harry seems to me close to the style of a Dempsey and a Basilio and probably VERY similar to Max Baer than any other fighter we have on film, both were pretty wild, the biggest difference would be that Baer liked to clown and Harry was DEAD SERIOUS in the ring, whereas Ray was more like Benny Leonard and maybe even a cross between Young Griffo and Joe Louis only with quicker footwork, he may or may not be as quick as Griffo but of course Griffo didn't have a big punch in either hand but Ray sure did. I used Griffo here because like Greb there is no fight footage of therefore leaving a lot of mystery, Greb like Griffo is one of the great enigmas, both have amazing resume's and there can be a case made that both were far above the average All Time great.

Two more names have just come to mind when trying to describe the style Greb MAY HAVE LOOKED LIKE..... Mix in Max Baer with Gene Fullmer and Graziano and a chin like Marciano's and better at evading the big punches than all four and somewhere in that mix is Harry Greb..... not a combination of all four added together of course otherwise Greb would have never lost a fight and would have beaten King Kong.

Oh he sure has been a nuaghty boy sometimes, the fruit guy incident was national news and I thought it may have been a beat up until I saw him in action that day. He always has had his fans but he lost many that day he attacked the bloke.

From Wikipaedia >>>>>> On 5 January 2004, Fenech was attacked and stabbed by four men in Sydney, receiving facial cuts that required plastic surgery.
In June of the same year, the Fenech family home was attacked by shooters; seven bullets were recovered but no one was injured. Australian police believe the two attacks against Fenech are connected, ranging from a bar fight that Fenech had with a gang-member in 2003. The Australian newspaper quoted someone related to a Lebanese gang stating that "they will get him", but Fenech does not believe that the violent events are related.

Despite repeated denials made in the popular press and on his website, Fenech pleaded guilty to his role in the 2005 theft of 3 gold watches worth a total of $327 from a Gold Coast, Queensland boutique store. There was clear evidence of his involvement from in-store security cameras, revealing that Fenech actively participated in the incident.

Fenech like most people though has his good side and it seems he deeply regrets his past mistakes.... here is a quote from an interview with Grantlee Kieza >>>>>>>>>>>
"""“It hurts me that some people now think less of my sporting achievements because of the mistakes I’ve made outside of the ring,’’ Fenech says.<<<<<<<<<<<<<

In fact Jeff has had a similar past before boxing as Mike Tyson and both had a long period of trouble after and during their careers.... more from the Kieza interview >>>>>>>>>>>>

"""""" Fenech met Tyson in 1987 at a boxing function in the US when both were at their marauding best, Tyson as the youngest heavyweight champion of all time and Fenech as the most successful fighter ever from Australia.

The pair were kindred spirits who understood each other’s inner turmoil. And both were guided by father figures who harnessed their brute strength and raw rage into something manageable and marketable for sports fans.

Fenech helped his friend through the darkest times that gripped a man who by his own admission was half human, half animal, capable of quoting Machiavelli and Shakespeare but doing three years in jail for **** and blowing $400 million in earnings.

Fenech trained him for his last professional fight, swapping notes with Muhammad Ali in the dressing room. And seven years later Tyson remains an unabashed fan.

“Jeff Fenech, oh boy,’’ Tyson says. “He’s a great friend. And you’re talking about the greatest fighter ever from Australia. A great, great champion, guts, strength and power.’’ <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

That is very interesting but I won't believe it until it's on youtube..... Who knows, maybe Klompton got himself fit, cut his hair real short, paid some boxer to put on a show in front of a camera and shot it in sepia tone and made the film look jumpy... (kidding guys kidding). Seriously hope this news is for real and not a hoax.

    Like comparing apples and oranges..
IMO, SRR along with Benny Leonard were the 2 greatest all around fighters ever. Both Leonard and Robinson could box, move around, think and were destructive punchers in the ring...
Having said this, Harry Greb's career was more remarkable given the fact that he was able to spot so,so many top fighters oodles of weight time and again and beat these guys repeatedly...An amazing feat.
Put it this way : In horse racing usually all horses have about the same weight on their backs, and the top great horses win most of their races...
But some great horses in history were called "handicap" horses as they repeatedly were burdened with extra weight in their races and still won those races. Thus so with Harry Greb, He had the great ability, speed, ruggedness and nerve to take on some great heavier and stronger HOF fighters and come out on top.
Whatever his style, Greb did the trick, and in my eyes was the greatest and most fearless fighter ever...Ray Robinson was beautiful to watch, but he seldom tackled heavier top fighters in his career, and only once challenged a top LH, Joey Maxim who
though an excellent boxer did not hit as hard as some middleweights. To test himself SRR could have tackled an Ezzard Charles, Archie Moore, Gus Lesnevich etc, but Robinson didn't. whilkst Harry Greb though about 5ft8" and 160 pounds fighting
weight took on anyone who had the nerve to step in the ring
with this "seven year itch" some called him. That is why I have him P4P over SRR...Just my opinion, but I think I think I'm correct...

Possibly a mixture of Jung Koo Chang and Joe Calzaghe?

Harry Greb was really a unique fighter though.

Calzaghe has been mentioned before. I suspect that turning, Ukrainian footwork may have not been new to Greb, by the accounts of his fights.

Maybe more like Pacquiao, although Greb didn't sound as unsteady in any reports I've read?

Calzaghe is the first name that comes to mind for me.

Going off the written descriptions of his style, that is what I am seeing!

I could perhaps suggest Jake LaMotta.

50% Joe Calzaghe Fast, volume puncher with a hard to time defense
30% Fritzie Zivic - Rough and Dirty, with a top chin
20% Carmen Basillio - Tough minded
