If you had to pick one of the four major organizations to rule boxing

IBF is probably the best balance of "old/venerable and honorable". Its pair of elders aren't the latter, especially the WBA...while the WBO is still just not where the Big Three are and probably never will be in our lifetimes. It is a perpetual also-ran, gotten good enough to graduate from the minors but will always be a distant fourth place of the Big Four.

That said, I voted WBC just because the green belt is so iconic and laden with history and is the one most boxers - still, thanks now to a generation inspired by the likes of Mayweather and Tyson chatting it up - lust for. And...while yes, they have their absurdities, they're still a damn sight less of a cluster**** than is the other oldest, the WBA. Besides, the WBC is technically the oldest if you follow their histories.

 

Oldest in this case only seems more senile as really respected in the community.

 

Well, in the fan community. Fans' frustration doesn't really reflect how the boxers themselves feel. The actual athletes paying the sanctioning fees and competing for these prizes tend to favor the WBC and WBA the most, despite their antics.

 

True. But there can be only one... if the IBF beheads the WBA and C, he inherits their power.

 

None, get rid of them all and have the athletic commissions/boards of a select set of countries refuse to sanction fights that have those belts on the line.
