I don't really have a problem with it, but I would like to see more bouts like Vera/Lee; 2 prospects with good records facing off. I just think FNF could become a great platform for up and comers to get exposure and make a name for themselves.

Rather than purely showcase fights between one marginal name guy and a can, I'd rather see more of a ShoBox format. Have a couple of unknown 15-2 guys go at it. Too many of the fights just are not competitive at all.

All in all, though, I'm happy to have it.

    Who are you?

(I posted this a while back about Friday Night Fights. Seems like a good time to post it again.)

The way I see it, ESPN's Friday Night Fights is like your current girlfriend. She's no Halle Berry (HBO) or Rosario Dawson (Showtime), but she's with you and even though she gets on your nerves sometimes, she's more good than bad. Plus, she's better than the cute girl who hardly ever comes around (Versus) or that ugly girl you hook up with when there is no other option (Fox Sports). Still, you'd like to give that cute Hispanic girl a shot (Telefutura) if only she was available in your neighborhood.

Teddy Atlas would say that at the very least there is favortism bestowed by ESPN upon certain promoters. (And at most there is significant influence and possibly corruption) And in fact it has been reported that a certain promoter uses his significant access to ESPN dates as a marketing tool to get various fighters to sign with him over other promoters.

And to continue that thought, if one promoter has the majority of the dates without any/much competition involved, that usually lessens the need to make competitive fights. Just ask Versus about Bob Arum...

    Nice!

I'd add that if you get bored with her, you can take a trip out of town and hire a professional (PPV) for one night to get some variety.

Friday night fights is a great thing for boxing.... don't really see any problems, only sometimes with Teddy Atlas which I think for the most part does a good job, but he has to leave the word corruption and acting unprofessional when a bad decision is awarded, the decision alone doesn't help the sport, but having someone remind the avg. viewer every Friday about the past fights would get somewhat annoying... we all know it happens in all sports, but we move on... i like the idea when they have good prospects such as gamboa in events... other than that a few better names of the sport would help... but thumbs up to Friday Night Fights :good

Obviously it would be nice if ESPN invested a bit more money into the shows. The shows seem to be hit and miss but I guess thats to be expected. Overall I'm glad to have Friday and Wednesday Night Fights, but it would be nice to see ESPN take a bigger interest in their boxing shows.

I do! the fights are absolute ****, and teddy(while he is good for the sport) is really annoying with his biased comments and routine speeches. They need to step it up or just go off the air

I feel the same way. I will also say that even though some arent the best fights? they've had some entertaining and sometimes shocking fights.
