If you managed a new young HW - Pick your ideal 1st 5 opponents?

    The scenerio is you have just signed the brightest young amataur star and you want him to go to the top. In a perfect world who would you match him with for his first 5 fights?

    Debut: Scott Belshaw - An ideal opponent because does not look flabby. His record is not that bad. He has no chin what-so-ever and therefore start the career with a KO1.

    2 weeks later - step up against Lee Swaby over 6 rounds. Maybe a KO, but going 6 is a great education

    1 month later - Danial Peret over 8. Get the Peret test in early. If he looks bad he can work on it in the gym, a KO would give good bragging rights.

    1 month later - Another 8 rounder - Bring in someone from across the pond. Rich Power would suit the bill.

    2 months later 1st 10 rounder and 1st name - Matt Skelton. Still a big name, but because of his slide safe enough for the first big test.

    Therefter should be on the fast track and not a Eurobum in sight

    That is not a bad list but these days the way fighters are brought along cough*Price"cough to have those opponents in 10 fights would still be classed as a decent record.

    I personally like Furys progression with regards to his opponents.

    I will think about opening 5 now

    Wow, some pretty tough tests for the first 5 fights imo. To be fair it's how it ought to be but just doesn't really happen. Most prospects wouldn't get near any of them until they'd knocked over at least 6 or 7 Latvian cabbies.

    1st 3 immediately came to mind but think Skelton would still be a tough test for 5th fight

    Not sure who exactly but for me I'd want them fighting a bit of a mix of other young, unbeaten prospects and strong, tough journeymen. Personally though I'd stay away from the likes of Swaby and Peret. They're near useless and you gain almost nothing from beating them.

    Not sure about first 5 fights but within 10 I'd want them to be winning the English title and then on to the British title. It's a bit of a brave one but once they'd won the British title, I'd have them defending it against everyone in Britain. If this prospect really is as good as he should be, defences against the likes of Sexton, Fury, Price, Olubamiwo and Sprott should all be winnable and it'll give the contender a range of experience to move on to European level.

    God I wish I had the money/reputation to put some of these fights on lol!

    It's impossible to say. It would depend on the style of your prospect, how good they are in general and specific intangibles (for example, whether they are well-schooled enough to be able to take on tough journeyman at the start, or whether they lack the ring IQ at first and adaptability should things not be going well for them). That said, if I had a guy like David Price, I'd be pushing him along in the first 5 against the likes of Peret, Swaby and Zack Page.

    A current guess would be how the last 5 have been brought on by their respective promoters...:yep

    5 fights and you want yours in with Skelton, are you cashing out on him...:think

    Im not sure for names, but as long as each opponent in his first five fights brings something different to the table for the prospect to have to adapt towards. Like a pressure fighter, counter puncher, a tall rangy jabber, a power house, a speedy smaller hw, etc.

    I think styles are more important for learning in the first stage of a career in any weight, as u learn to adapt to these different styles as u step up.

    Not every young HW is Pulev. It´s okay if you´ve got a top prospect with pedigree like Solis or Pulev but I wouldn´t reccomend putting most in with Skelton that quickly.

    I would however suggest no Latvian road sweepers, nobody that has a losing record AND has been KO´d loads of times because that serves no purpose.
