If you read the IBF rules, there is NO controversy. Bute won.

Exactly the ropes did keep him from falling back down and it clearly shows he would have when he walked back towards his corner after the ref allowed him to, he stummbled his legs were still gone.

Meaning that it was a legit knock out, infact the way the ropes kept him up several times prior to the Knock Down should and could have been ruled a knock down at that point, However the ref let it go and after the actual knock down it should have been stopped the man was clearly out and in no shape to continue regardless of the bell that rang, you can not be saved by the bell in any round.

I am no huge fan of neither guy, but in reality Andrade was ****ed friday night

No standing 8 count makes it impossible to call a KD when Bute was on the ropes.About stopping him,do you think anybody would/should have stopped the champion in his hometown after he schooled him in the previous 11 rounds right in the last second?

Soto was robbed on a technicality when he had really done nothing wrong, according to the rules, after dominating Lorenzo for the whole fight. Bute dominated Andrade for most of the fight and beat the count and the fight was over. There was no more time for Andrade to do anything. He left it too late. He won the fight technically and in reality. Soto and Bute were the ones who deserved to win.

This thread sure is interesting. Using guidelines to determine cuplability. The problem is (and I can't stress this enough) that there is a difference between not breaking the rules and doing your job well. I've seen PLENTY of refs do horrible jobs while not breaking any rules. The rules do not cover the grey area that comprises most of the refs job. If a refs only job was to stick to written rules and no grey area, fighters would get seriously hurt. "He wasn't hanging helplessly your honor!" isnt gonna hold up if someone dies because some **** ref decides to push the limits of hometown bias. And we all know Andrade would have been waived off of the cicumstances were reversed.

Your #2 contradicts your #1 point. You start by saying that following the rules is less important that following "common sense" (however you might define that abstruse and subjective term), but then in #2 you say that that the ref should be concerned with rules and safety.

Are you making this stuff up?

I can't tell you if the ref relied on his eyes and his judgement. I also can't tell you whether or not Bute was indeed able to continue. All I can tell you is all that really matters: Bute got up before the count of 10 and the fight had already ended. Which should really end this neverending discussion.

But it's just YOUR opinion that the ref didn't do his job well. And it's your opinion that the ref was biased in favor of Bute. You've just decided that on your own. So why should we accept your interpretation of the events when we have all this evidence to refer to?

    1) With seconds left, Bute was floored.
    2) Bute is up by the 8th second.
    3) Bute is standing with his back to the ropes.
    4) The ref let the fight continue
    5) The time elapsed and the fight was over.

The only possible argument comes with #4. Should the ref let the fight continue. That's his call and he can use whatever evidence is available to make that determination, including the time left in the fight. So you can question the ref's call, but there is no robbery here as many want to suggest.

The man fell into the ropes the ropes kept him from falling back down, that means the man was knocked out, Yes I do beleive a ring official has an obligation to also consider the other mans work, so what if its in the champions hometown so what if you think he won the previous 11 rounds.

everybody knows in the champions home town you must make it clear Andrade did make it clear in the final seconds and an experienced official would have made the right call in this fight. The right call was to rule it a knock out win for Librado, the man did what he was supposed to do, and had it not been for the ropes Bute would have fallen on his face, and the fight would have been waved off even with this ref, This ref has only previously had 5 world title fights experience which is why we have this out come.

Experience pays off in big fights like this, the IBF failed big time here, probably because the fighters are two lesser names, you could bet your ass if it were Calzaghe or Hopkins, that Nady would have been in there or another top notch official. but becuase it was Andrade and Bute we got the backwash we got.

Iif all refs had to do was not break rules and no one held them accountable for their decisions, it would mean the end of the sport. Everytime **** like this happens it turns people away from the sport. Period.

That is just you'r opinion, not a fact.No ref in the world would have stopped Bute there without even going down once in the timeframe and with the outcome so clear.

A ref following the rules turns people away from the sport? If so, good riddance. The sport doesn't need fans who don't understand the difference between a gut feeling and a written rule.

There's so much false information, conjecture and fallacious reasoning here that I don't know where to begin. So I won't.
