Imagine how big David Haye would be if he would of signed with Frank Warren... David Haye is trying hard now to up his public status, and he is breaking through..well done son..well done son. But if he would of signed with Frank Warren he would of been a heavyweight item in british sport by his 15 fight. He would of been on the same level as Amir Khan in the public arena.
Frank Warren get's too much bad made of him....... Did he not bring Mike Tyson to the Uk.. Did he not get Frank Bruno his 3rd heavyweight title chance.. He has did loads of good...
If Haye had signed with Warren, he be fighting bums till he's 40-0 and would probably be still be a nobody in the crusierweight division. Haye is one of the new breed of fighters, not afraid to go abroad and fight the best as soon as he can. Hopefully, the days of british fighters getting overhyped and staying at home fighting bums for a crappy WBO belt is over.
I like Frank Warren.. Its all about making money, and aswell as doing your job. Not every boxer can fly around the world fighting and taking risks. You must know and understand the line, the line in which you must not cross. Because then you will be putting yourself in too much risk...... It's about being smart..
For example.. Look at Matt Skelton.. "Skelto" Frank Warren was smart with him, and Skelto got his chance...in which he earned...a shot at a World Title. And Skelto is still around lad.....
Kind of agree, but for the last bit. Before the IBF and WBO,came along,it was a ******* for a European to try and get a shot at a major belt.It was Americas private party....American fighting American,in general, over and over.... with the odd token invite to Euroes.Calzaghe would have had to have been 40-O and European champ for about 3 years to get a World title shot in those days. I like loads of belts for that very reason mate.Im cool with it,because its good for the fighters.
Read this post and of course i reply, with Warren ( yep i think i would pick him before any of them, why ? cash ! ! ! regarding a promoter )....He is making a name regarding his popularity ?(Haye) Yep i agree, whats unbelievable is that he was is/was an undisputed champion at his weight and left it to seek bigger things and as u say he is "making a name etc" I think as his attitude shows, he dont want money either..........he really wants glory 1st..and as anyone knows, the cash comes as standard, just a shame he burst a weight that isnt box office. Hairy:good
I don't think money is an issue because he always earned reasonable money and was therefore prepared to take a risk. Asking guys to take hard fights when they are on the breadline is a bit far-fetched. If fighters are paid reasonable money earlier, they are more likely to advance quicker instead of facing bums.
The more you post the less in touch with the realities of the sport you seem. I like a bit of banter with you MR Kool but seriously. 90% of Warrens fighters are completely unknown despite masses of talent. No one knows who the likes of Kevin Mitchell, Steve Foster Jnr, Alex Arthur, Nicky Cook really are and they are his key players. Warren is a tremendous businessman and has/had some weight late nineties and early this decade but he has done little to raise the profile of the sport in general thus hitting himself in the pocket when it comes to ticket time. The Frank Warren/Sports Network formula is a financially winning one but one that I have no doubt is doing the game more harm then good at the moment. We need competitive matches and to make the game more of a spectacle again. Three good matches ups and three prospect Vs journeyman is the way forward.... not a questionable main event, one decent chief support and hours of drivvel watching a full time pro punch **** out of some fat dude who only traines twice a week.
Don't be silly. Amir Khan is well-known to the general public simply because he won an Olympic medal at 17 years of age, live on BBC. It has nothing to do with Frank Warren. The same happened to Audley Harrison. He was a well-known face from day one of his pro career. The problem is much bigger than any one person. There are no stars in boxing anymore.
