i really odnt know why people think hopkins would lose this fight. calzaghe is no way outboxing hopkins. no one ever has. how does hopkin lose this? by work rate? by thsoe punches Calzaghe throws while his head is down? come on, lets be serious

i do think hopkins will lose this fight, but i do not beleive hopkins is afraid to either lose or of calzaghe.

you only have to watch hopkins v wright to analyse why hopkins would lose.
wright was slow of hand and foot /looked cumbersome and yet every round was close and even.

calzaghe will not look pretty but IMO would outhustle and outspeed this version of hopkins.

Okay, lets be serious. Hopkins had 2 very close fights with Taylor, with one that he legitly lost. Taylor won just because of his workrate and his jab helped a bit. Taylor is not even near Calzaghe's league. Hopkins has only been fading more and more after the Tarver and Wright fights while Calzaghe is still an elite fighter with near-prime abilities. I am a very big Hopkins fan, but I can recognize that he is finished as a true elite fighter and will be outworked and embarassed by Joe. I hate to even think about it, but if Calzaghe tried his best to stop Hopkins, he might be able to at this point. He's 42!! Come on..

I dont think hes scared, but I think he's smart and makes calculated moves. I think thats why he wouldnt fight RJJ and why he wont fight Calzaghe. Im sure Hopkins isnt scared of any fighter, but he knows that he has no room for error and has to utilize his resources at a more measured pace b/c of his age. Whats remarkable about Hopkins is that, personally I believe, that he has been in decline since about 2003. In 2003 he fought to barely win fights. DLH-Hops was the most boring fight I had ever seen until DLH got the body blow. Hops threw about 6 punches a round. And against Eastman, Hops didnt even fight the first 5 rounds.

Hopkins knows that he cant fight a full 12 rounds anymore and hence the holding, the clinching, taking rounds off, etc. And fighting Calzaghe you not only have to be able to go 12 rounds, you have to prepare to fight 12 grueling rounds where Hops wouldnt be afforded the opportunity to take rounds off.

That Hopkins is still a top p4p fighter at his age and now in 2007, since his decline started (in my opinion) in 2003, is a testament to his in ring intelligence and is remarkable. Why would he go through all that risk, trouble at his age and after all he's accomplished? Hopkins fights are coldly calculated, and a fight with Calzaghe just doesnt add up right.

Hopkins has lost so many times it doesn't matter anymore, so long as he gets paid.

No, of course he's not scared of getting hurt. But he IS scared of losing badly which is why I think Borenard will veto this fight by making unreasonable financial demands ie receiving more than 50%. Borenard will stay on the US Seniors Tour, so expect a match with the Jones/Trinidad winner

He is also scared of travelling to Britain to fight, although God knows why

  12. Hopkins i doubt is scared of anybody, but if he fight's Cali at 43 it's hard to see him winning more than 2 or 3 rounds..
This would have been a more competitive fight 5 years ago, now Joe will outhustle him and beat him to the punch all night long..

    Calzagh UD 12..:good

I`m from England but what good American fighter like Hopkins wants to risk losing to a limey?Calzaghe wants the fight.Calzaghe has stated intently that he`ll fight him anywhere he wants so now whats the excuse?Money?Oh what an easy one to come up with,if it is that.He thinks he`s so much a bigger name than him in his head he sees Calzaghe as a serious risk without letting on of course so he`ll use his greed as a buffer to stop the fight we all want.
