Let's assume you're a pro boxer in one of your big fights, negotiations and mutual trash talking is over, here you are in fight night, sitting on your stool about to begin the second round.

You thought you were going to be in a competitive match tonight, a match you thought you could actually win if you prepared well, and you did, the problem is, after engaging a bit during the first round you've realized you can't.

Your opponent took your best punch and it was like a toddler hit him, while a couple glancing hits from him almost put you on baby horse legs, worst of all is, you feel that he's just warming up. and that there's a 99% chance you're gonna be KTFO if you try to engage again.

    What do you do?

    a) Still fight as hard as you can to win, even if you know you're gonna end up looking at the doctor's penlight . Give people their money's worth.

    b) Fight to survive. Resort to excessive clinching, run like a *****, feign injuries, turtle up the whole match, etc whatever it takes to at least finish the fight on your feet and avoid getting KO in brutal and embarrassing fashion (or beaten to a bloody pulp with brain damage or a broken eye socket or something)

Both. But if I had to choose you can always gamble and hope luck is on your side. Land the money shot.

Fight to win, all or nothing but your showing those Hatton pics, id sorta try a little harder to take my opponants skills into account than he did. Theres fighting to win and theres running into knockout punches.

DQ'ing yourself or Quit, Mike Tyson style, would fit in the survive option.

They're way outs for those who know they're gonna lose anyway, and dont wanna endure the punishment

Yes, those are the only options when you're vastly outclassed dip****.

Well, maybe you wont get KTFO if your chin is incredibly sturdy, but you're gonna end up beaten like a dog and with your face looking like something out of a Horror movie, probably putting and end to your career prematurely or giving you a permanent handicap.

Hatton did that night the same stuff he'd always done before. It's just that it was never going to work with that caliber/style of opponent, but he tried anyway

if i knew i couldnt win i'd rather be killed than finish on my feet like a coward.

I'd just drop my gloves and give the opponent free shots, and go out like a warrior

Very unreastic question to ask.... most here have never boxed professionally and therefore they really wouldn't know how they would react if truly faced with this situation. The kind of pressure, panic, and extreme physical punishment that a fighter faces in those hopeless moments is something that is truly unimagineable. It's something you'd have to go through to really get a sense of and most people wilt under those circumstances.

It's funny that you posted that... I was just about to post a pic of Tony Margarito in the Pac fight! He fought like a REAL MAN!! :yep Came forward the whole fight... You should of used this example rather than Hatton getting KTFO in 2! :fire:fire:fire

This thread is full of fail! First you use Hatton as an example of a fighter who fights on when he knows he cant win! :patsch He got KTFO in the 2 round.. He still felt he could win, trust me! Now Margarito was getting a God awful beating and he knew he was going to lose but he came forward like a DOG and fought on. Willing to die... ETC..

You also failed because you use a picture of Haye (The guy that gave up and ran) Hitting Wlad. It was a good thread, just horrific examples! :fire

Exactly. Most never experience the nervousness you'd feel against a fighter you're favored to beat, let alone someone whose going to eat you alive should you give them the chance.
