When you shadow box you don't have to throw hard punches

I did most of my sparring with heavyweights so defense and countering on the inside became something I worked religiously on. But on the outside I'm all elusive footwork and long jab, I have good power in my right but I tend to fight from a bladed stance like Toney or Hopkins making it a challenge to land it at a distance, but if I'm able to time you coming in it's going to hurt.

The weird thing is I was about 240 in high school. I wear a size 14 shoe and have huge hands. I lost a ton of weight when I started training in MMA.

Throwing your hardest is what the heavy bag is for. Shadow boxing should be about speed, using proper technique (hands up, chin down, not dropping your jab and moving after throwing) by throwing your hardest you run the risk of injury like shoulder and back issues.

So you are light because you lost mass

I'm of average height, reach and build with a fairly good punch....but no real special gifts. I would adopt the measured, defensive styles...safety first, that is, of the fighters I've listed. through what natural abilties that I do have and through learned application, I would develop my jab like Tommy Loughran did his...through painstaking practice and application...same holds true for learning every defensive move available...in that way I would also cite as major influences the great Harold Johnson and my man Jimmy Young.

I'm 6'3 and 220 lb. Okay power, pretty long, quick arms and good footwork. I try to maintain distance, jabbing from a crab shell guard and trying to land long hooks from the hip and fast combinations.

Thank you. I read Joe Louis book, and he says to always throw your punches as hard as you can. I've been doing that for years, and I think I have a devastating punch but Ive never fought anyone so I don't know for sure.

Yeah in dvd i got some amateur fights.i am not a pro fighter. I am a former mediocre amateur but strong haha. Simply i like to hit and take a punch lol.it makes me feel alive. In my former channel of youtube i got a short vĂdeo (1minute, we change of parner every minute, like a triangle) making a funny and friendly "sparring" session to the body with a mw partner of the gym. In a park. I will try to put the link but maybe i cant because i am new in the forum (with this alias)

    I've never been a boxer.
If I was, I'd be like Bruce Seldon. Fall down before I could get hit.
