If you were Clottey, what would your game plan be?

If I was Clottey, I would realize that winning a decision is close to impossible when I am a low exposure fighter fighting a superstar and, I hate to say it, but boxing is corrupt. I would realize that there are only three strategies that I need to implement on the night of the fight and two of the strategies involves losing a decion:
    1. Win by TKO or KO - this is a very tall order since Pacquiao has proved to have one of the best chins out there and I don't have a lot of KO power. I can go all out in hope that by being the "bigger" man, the natural welterweight, I can land something that will hurt him. However, I do run the risk of falling like a potato sack a la Ricky Hatton. I also run the risk of never showing my face in boxing again.
    2. Losing a Decision - although a loss will be a high probability I don't win by the first strategy, I can show the fans that I have what it takes to expose Pacquiao. I can show them that I can make him look bad and give him the hardest test he has faced since the Marquez fight. Yes, I will lose, but in reality I will win the hearts of many and maybe then I will gain more respect and exposure I deserve.
    3. Employ the 5 D's of Dodgeball - dodge, dip, dive, duck..........and dodge! More or less - RUN! Make it to the final bell just to say you faced Pacquiao for 12 rounds and were not knocked out! Make up some story that you broke you hands to justify your actions.
If you don't already realize it...that last strategy was a joke. :yep

Honestly he needs to get Pacman mind off his game plan. The only way I can see Clottey doing this is by headbutting him and subsequently cutting Pac.

Pac doesn't like to be cut, then again who does. This is clottey only chance in my opinion.

He can't let Pac get into any sort of form. He needs to keep his defence tight and try to catch Pac on the way in and make sure he hurts him. He needs to be physical and use his extra mass to bully Pac when he can. He can't be lazy or negative and needs to display mental toughness. It's a tricky one, which I don't see him winning. Pac pounds out a decision.

True but can you create an entire gameplan around that?

I really think he just needs to be himself, fight intelligently, focus on his stengths and not try to change too much coming into his fight. A lot of guys run into trouble when they make huge changes for one fight.:bbb

Option one would be a huge mistake. Pacquiao thrives off people who exchange with him. Due to his impressive chin, dangerous power, newly improved accuracy, and blurring handspeed, Pac holds a distinct advantage over other brawlers, and he'll always come out the better (Hatton and Cotto).

A good way of getting the better of Pac, is by boxing (jab!) and counter punching him. Unfortunately for Clottey, this isn't really his area of expertise. But what is his area of expertise, is making the other person look bad. As much of a nice guy he is, Clottey is one dirty ****er. And I think this is his best bet of upsetting Pac's rythem, and to make it a close nasty affair. Abit of headbutting, holding, wrestling, sneaky lowblows, may do well to putt Pacquiao off.

making his size advantage relevant is the key. he cant be like Cotto shrinking by tucking his chin in. fight like a big man. he got the chin to do it.

I honestly dont think it matters what game plan Clottey brings. Clottey cant even get his trainer to prepare him for his toughest test ever.

His only chance is to try to rough up Pac.

I actually see the fight being similar to floyd v baldomir, with pac constantly circling around clottey who will move around the ring with his high guard up, shaking his head everytime pacman hits him.

He needs to rough Pac up. Walk him down, push him into the ropes, headbutt him, muscle him around, low blow him. Everything. When Pac throws a punch at Clottey, Clottey should litrally try to grab him and shove him on the floor.

tire him out and phase him.

    Wow..
You know, that's not a bad idea. He should rough him up. Fight dirty and bully pac around. He his bigger after all. He has the chin to go toe to toe; But can he do it?
    I'm betting on pac still...

I also think fighting dirty in the early rounds might be the best game plan. Getting a couple points deducted might be well worth it. As Cotto tried, trying to use a reach advantage by keeping distance will not work. So he might as well try and clinch and lean on him to wear him down and frustrate him. Making it as boring as possible might be the way to go.

As the creator of this thread pointed out, he might not win a decision this way but at least he might be able to go the distance with him.

Wear a mask, hide in the crowd and then jump Pacquaio while he's making his entrance into the arena.

Then if the fight gets hairy, have my trainer throw powder in Pacquaio's eyes during a clinch.
