Gun for the KO early, chase Mayweather around the ring, taunt and mock him.
    Cotto EVT 12 Mayweather

hmm not getting anywhere with this thread...

Personally id say body for the fist 3 or 4 rounds, combos, dont just throw a single punch, try to press and work inside to the body and establish your jab early, try to take away floyds movement and quick feet, work inside with uppercuts through rounds 4,5,6 start looking for those power shots to the head and pile the pressure on try to back floyd up. My basic point would be pressure, all night long cut off the ring keep going to the body.

Come forward high guard. Pick your shots coming forward so you don't get countered so often, once you are on the inside throw punches in bunches, move out the way, hands back up to keep blocking on the way out.

Mayweather is going to be too fast for Cotto to be evading punches, so he is gonna have to keep his hands up high the whole time and pick his shots to the inside.

The punches in bunches on the inside should be the game plan in the early rounds, just to look flashy and good in front of the judges, but definitely move out the way after a few shots. Once he starts finding his mark then he should start ripping away in the mid to later rounds. If he is looking for perfect shots he will get stuck plodding too much and get seriously countered.

beat that front shoulder and chest with jabs and crosses followed by hooks to the body. punch him in the ass and thighs every now and again then follow those shots with hooks up top. don't load up on ****. keep it all fast and in combination. try not to lean on that front foot and slip/block and counter the counters. rinse and repeat the cycle.

Everyone always says to pressure Mayweather but it's yet to work!

I think he'll fight like he did against Margo in his last fight, lots of movement and some combos. Really dont think he'll try and pressure Mayweather

Hopefully 'vintage Cotto' will appear with some of his brutal body shots!

A stiff jab to the chest followed by a bodypunch-speed not power, in and out movement through out the fight

simple but if done correctly could be very effective

Cotto should keep a jab distance and use his jab, only move forward when he sees he has an opening so he doesn't get countered. Not being the agressor and making Mayweather have to come forward too, like he normally doesn't have to, and make it a boring boxing/chess fight where the power of Cotto's jab can make a difference for the judges.

That's because most boxers that Mayweather has fought don't have the speed or reach advantage. No one has had those advantages so they can't outbox him, and Mayweather is highly skilled on top of that. Cotto was able to outbox Margo because he had the speed advantage. He doesn't have either here. He probably has the strength advantage because he is much more used to the weight class. Also most boxers also don't know how to cut off the ring or apply pressure at a high level. The closest was Castillo.

Cotto will have to box and punch if he is going to win here though

How is Cotto gonna do that when his reach isn't long enough and he isn't nearly as fast. If Cotto employs that style he will be eating counter rights all night.

How can you wait for openings so you dont get countered? that makes no sense, both yoour replies i think are right, as far as pressure not working, no one yet has really gone for it, I believe cotto can get inside if hes agressive early on.

first would be to jab that lead shoulder, use a powerful jab to the shooulder not the head. To keep Floyd's weight on his back foot to take the steam off the counters. Educate the right hand mixing it early to the body and then shoot it high off the shoulder. get him comfortable moving to the left around round 3 or 4 shoot the left hook quick followed by a straight right this time just inside the left shoulder. Body shots from the left and right should be used any time Floyd lean away from a head shot along the rope. Keep Floyds weight on his back foot so that he will have to set to throw power. That's what I would do, but I would still lose could work for Cotto.

Good footwork and movement around the ring of course, as Cotto did against many fast opponents. Even a bit in the first round against Pacquiao.
