Difficult one. If Cotto stays at range, he'll get picked off. If he brings the pressure, he'll end up eating straight rights all night. If he does get inside he'll get wrestled off balance (May is brilliant at this) and lit up with combo's. Very, very difficult for him...
Still getting hit with counter rights over the top all night long, floyds a brilliant fighter off the back foot.
Good point, but cotto is no ricky hatton, he has better movement than hatton, he can get inside with footwork and keeping a high guard, something hatton didnt do and something cotto is very capable of.
I need to add don't go for opening but create them by punching, anything that it look like you can hit clean is most likely a trap.
A real jab not a pawing jab he's good off his back foot when he sit there on it, push him with the jab. Not to his head like everyone tries to his shoulder....
Pac is fast offensively whereas Mayweather is fast both offensively and especially defensively!!! Cotto has better movement and footwork now working with Diaz. I think he'll fight that way though But would you try and 'potshot' one of the best counter punchers?
Power punches? Mostly hooks to the body. Any other punches besides body hooks and jabs need to be used very carefully against Mayweather, unless you can put him against the ropes.
In theory sounds great. I always think bodyshots as well. But the problem is Mayweather is so quick when you go for a bodyshot he'll get a clean head shot!!
I'm not sure if I can explain any better, but he's gotta walk forward and side to side cutting off the ring, but with high guard and once he is close throw some strong jabs up and down and to the shoulders, but always bring the jab back to chin. He should also mix up the timing up his jab, throw feints and different amounts of jabs. He can't throw jabs throw jabs from a distance or keep the lead hand low or he will eat some serious punches. So I guess another way to say this is that he can't create openings from the outside, he has to create them at mid-range. I also think he is at a speed disadvantage on the inside so I don't think he should stay there too long. Throw some fast punches and a few strong ones, move to the side back to high guard and start the process again.
Stamina will be key here. Cotto needs to execute the gameplan, whichever it is, 100% to win. Edit: Sparring partners will be key too
What planet are you on this week? Chase Money, the best footwork hands down in the ring, and go for the KO? If that is the plan then Cotto might as well knock himself out in round 1 before Floyd does just that with that plan. Better yet, why not give Floyd a few kisses and a hug right before he kills him? atsch
Miguel can't outbox Floyd, so he's going to have to go back to working the body. His best chance would be to adopt a swarming style, with his head in Floyd's chest working the body and then overhand left and rights hooks like Marciano. But since I won't be training him, I don't think that's gonna happen.
