Canelo needs to plan his feet to unleash his combo's. Notice how he man handles Lopez who has a come forward style, yet struggles to look as great in the Rhodes fight where Rhodes kept backing. Floyd just needs to potshot and run. Canelo has a lot of power, Floyd should stay away from that.
I think keep him in the middle of the ring, laying on the ropes will be suicide as Canelo will not stand in the pocket, but come in with huge combos to the body and that left hook will stun Mayweather if he wants to get cute with his Shoulder roll, do not fight CANELO like Cotto. Side step the whole 12 rounds, ala Martinez JR, keep resetting him with some quick counters and keep moving. Never beeing a stationary target, and never succumbing to a corner or the ropes or lights out. May can't do this and he will be in a war, as Canelo can take punishment and go hard to the body he is young fresh powerful and will not be bullied like small ass cotto was. This is why it won't happen... Canelo stands a big chance... May will have to walk trough hell to get the win and he may be to old and stationary to do it now.
Exactly, Canelo is more of a counterpuncher/boxer-puncher than a straight pressure fighter. He likes it better when someone comes at him, so he can then counter with an explosive burst of offense. He'll come forward and pursue if the other guy isn't coming to him, but I think his first preference is to stay in the center of the ring, at mid-range, where he can put the most oomph into his shots, and if he can drive a guy to the ropes or the corners from there, all the better. But Canelo doesn't strike me as a straight pressure fighter very often. Floyd needs to stay on the outside, backpedal, stay off the ropes, and circle away as much as possible. If he tries to walk Canelo down, he's only doing what Canelo would want him to do. And if he tries to clinch with him, he'll get worn out, because Canelo is much bigger and stronger than he is (and even Cotto was outmuscling Mayweather in close during their clinches.) Also, for those people saying Canelo fights at a deliberate pace, he does...but since when has Floyd ever really pushed the pace or overwhelmed someone with a fast-paced fight plan? Never. Floyd's stamina is good because he fights at a measured pace himself. He never pushes the pace on anybody. The other guy typically gets frustrated trying to chase/hit Floyd or get discouraged eating counters, and then they reluctantly reduce their offense under their own volition to give Floyd fewer opportunities to counter them. Floyd can beat Canelo if he can stay on the outside and box and move for 12 rounds and not get caught on the ropes/try to walk into Alvarez's artillery, but does he have the legs to box and move away for 36 minutes, and have enough juice on his shots on the move to gain his respect? I have my doubts. Floyd's shots when his back is to the ropes or when he's coming forward have the most steam on them. When he's moving away/not planted, his shots aren't as strong. Cotto was hit a lot harder by Floyd's shots off the ropes/when Floyd was coming at Cotto than he was by Floyd's shots fired when he was moving away. Floyd gets his opponent's respect with the counters he sits on when stationary or walking someone down, not with his shots on the move/in retreat. That, plus the loss of his legs/footspeed/handspeed, is probably why he goes back to the ropes so often, and why he doesn't box and move for 12 rounds as much anymore. This older Floyd probably doesn't have the stamina to stay away forever, which is why walking down opponents/moving back to the ropes have becoming increasingly common habits of his. Basically, I think if this were 2007, Floyd would have the legs necessary to stay away from Alvarez and box his way to a decision from the outside. Now? I'm not sure. That's why I have this close to a 50/50 fight.
Rhodes got ****ing battered from pillar to post, didn't have anything and canelo looked beast in that fight WHAT u talking about LMAO, great offensive and counter punching skills demonstrated in that fight, if you wanna use a performance to set up a game plan use the Gomez as many will tell you here, gomez was whooping him because Canelo was practicing shoulder rolls and backing up, many will have you believe gomez was walking him down and confusing the kid atschsome of the **** i read is hilarious. Then ignore the fact a Jab dropped Gomez, and the first big counter right that landed gomez went into full retreat mode...
Small ass cotto outweighed Floyd at the weigh in and even more on fight night. Not sure where you are going with that.
Cotto is a small JR MW, and saying Canelo is not a blown up JR WW like Cotto, but is a natural JRMW. So yes he is small for the division, weight has nothing to do with it, Marquez was at 148 for a WW fight, doesn't make him a ****ing WW but a blown up LW, as Mayweather is a blown up JR WW himself.
