Probably would of waited to fight the winner of Cotto/Margo. Then retire. If his heart isn't in it, then there is no point him hanging around. But to me, the chance of a mega fight against either Margo or especially Cotto is just too good a chance to pass up.

I would at least fight the winner of Cotto/Margarito to shut everyone up then if I really felt as spectacular as many think he is, I would fight the winner of Abraham/Pavlik/Calzaghe.

Guys like Grebs, Gans, Walcott, Conn, Leonard all did similar.:bart

If he fought the winner of the Margo/Cotto fight nobody could complain after that

I sure as hell wouldn't retire when there's a young stud in the division demolishing his opponents who's also the ONLY logical opponent. Would make me look like I was afraid or something.

How could you be afraid when you once looked at him as a possible opponet at 140?

Is Cotto @ 140 the same @ 147? Did he get better? Does he look stonger against bigger guys? Was he the same w/ 22 wins as he is with 29?

Hell, another question is, did Mayweather look better @ 140 or 147? Answer all those.

Because circumstances change!!! Cotto is a different beast altogether nowadays. Who would you be more willing to share a ring with. The 140 Cotto or the 147 Cotto?

You thinking the other brings something they may or may NOT have seen is irrelevent. YOu didn't answer a single thing I asked, because you can't. But please, tell me who else Floyd has fought that is 147 pounds, attacks the body greatly and rigorously as Cotto does, and is just as incredibly sound boxer? BTW...Castill isn't.

You can't be serious about him being "scared" Lance, of who exactly?, Cotto?
Don't get me wrong, Cotto is a very good fighter but when you(together with many others) thought that he was also scared to death of Margarito then even if Mayweather beats Cotto then he'll also be scared of DLH II, Williams/Quintana, Mosley and many others. Fact is, whatever he does, there will always be someone else good enough to fight or else Floyd is scared.

Whether or not he's scared, that's not for you or I to say. There's a reason Mayweather is not taking on the top WW's, and it's NOT only money. No, he is NOT scared of DLH II, or Williams/Quintata because they are all NOT on the same level as Cotto is right now. It's not about the names Scar, or the hype, it's about what they bring to the fight. And with Cotto or Margarito, it's a tough as hell fight they he has a chance to lose. He doesn't want to take that risk.

All I can see is a fighter, near his prime, walking away (possibly) from the deepest and curently most exciting division in boxing when he is seen as the champ, and he has a superfight in the waiting in the Cotto/Margarito winner. If he can't get himself up for challenges like them present, it;s best he wals away. But there's unfinished business there. And the way he wasted time between Castillo II and Judah, I'd have thought he'd try to make up for it, not jusrt get paid.

It's not up for us to say indeed but you already said that he must be scared of something. If you don't take a win over Baldomir(for the undisputed title)/DLH(with all the advantages in the world in DLH's corner together with Floyd's first fight at the weight)/Hatton and even Judah as impressive then a win over Cotto would also be normal because Margarito/Mosley and others await. It's pretty simple Lance, first it was Margarito the man who brings fear and now(just as I expected and mentioned over and over when Cotto was still new in the division) Cotto is, what makes anyone sure someone else won't be mentioned?
It's pretty simple and clear here. The reason why he's not being bashed on about the money part is because he declined a HUGE rematch offer from DLH to retire simply because he made it clear that even money doesn't motivate him to go back in there again and when a fighter says that then he really means it and I doubt fear is the real reason. As far as this division being the richest, it's only Cotto to look at out for there and both of us know it, for Mayweather that is. Cotto is an excellent fighter, no doubts about it AT ALL but so is Mayweather so this case isn't as one-sided as many think it is.

I do think he's scared of something, and that's losing to anyone.

There's only one name out there and we both know it, the only name Floyd would seriously consider especially when he declined DLH's offer and that's Cotto.

I'd wait for the Margo-Cotto fight and fight the winner in one last huge-superfight. Then enjoy retirement.
