Would you hire a good nutritionist and try to make 130?

He's been brilliant at 135, but should be able to cut at least another 5 pounds and tear up the SFW division.

To me, this makes sense. First of all, he's strong but by no means a big lightweight. Second, if he becomes the ruler of 130, he'd be in the running for big fights with all of the stars at/around 126 like Gamboa, JML, Vazquez, Marquez....

The other two options would be to stay at 135, where he has looked good, or call it a career and do the law thing.

I say try 130 and see how it goes.

lol @ someone calling him the mini Arreola. He's a little flab. He can sweat down to 130 right now, and I think he could make 126 after a good camp. He's got to get serious

130 is the lowest i think he should go. I think hes fine at 135, the problems he has there have nothing to do with how he is at the weight. Often when a fighter is 100% comfortable at the weight he is, going lower just for the sake of going lower ends up hurting him, wether it be energy (which has rarely been a problem for diaz) output (which has never really been a problem for diaz except for this last one) chin (which again, isnt going to get better by going down now)

i think hes fine at 135, he was essentially fighting a boxer whos style was all wrong for him in the first place in malignaggi, though to me diaz looked utterly unprepared for this fight, that was the worst ive ever seen from diaz. But that is fixed in training camp.

His problems will be fixed by a good trainer, better training camp, and get back to the vintage diaz efforts. Other then that, i mean, you can only do so much, he is who he is and what he is, a light hitting swarming pressure fighter that usually throws punches in bunches and doesnt quit coming till the final bell, thats what won him the first malignaggi fight and i didnt see that in this fight, wether its because malignaggi boxed better or diaz not bringing it like he usually does, or (my belief) a little of both.

But i dont think a drop in weight is the cure for his problem, once he faces another fighter that isnt a master boxer (JMM) or a big slick fast guy like malignaggi, he will hopefully look like the diaz we know. That being said, who knows.... maybe a drop to 130 would be a career refresher, but a guy who has fought like diaz (meaning such a high output, whos stamina always looked pretty damn good) i dont think its because his training, but because thats just how hes built.

People hate that boxers drain themselves to make a certain weight, well diaz isnt doing that, and although i agree perhaps it wouldnt hurt to try that weight, it wouldnt suprise me if hes weaker there, and it wont fix the root problems.

    just imo

catchweights at 132 and use velocity training that Eric Morales used..would help him immensely.

He should stay at 135...that is where he is comfortable at...he almost unified the division at one point....

diaz is still a world class LW...he could win a title at 135 still...the thing is, at any weight...malignaggi has given the blue print to beat juan....its movement....I would keep him away from ali funeka..the 135 division is not as loaded as it once was.....and diaz could still make noise at that weight...

    He's perfect at 135.

If anything, he may need to change his conditioning program if he claims he can't make 135 anymore.

Even B-Hop has a change before assaulting 175.

130 lbs is probably to low for him......I dont know that his style suits a skinny frame.

135 lbs is perfect for him.....as long as he does''nt have to struggle to make that limit, he should just fight there.

......but even at 135 lbs, a fighter who does alot of pivoting and running like Malignaggi does, will give Diaz problems.......Diaz needs to be set to get off punches.
......if his opponent is running and contorting his body every which way, Diaz just doest'nt have the footwork to dispense punches at a moving target.

losing to Malinaggi is no big insult. He won the first one by luck and lost the last one, He is even. So he doesn't come out too bad. Problem isn't what happened with Malinaggi , but what these fights showed is that he might not do too well vs. other good fighters. We will see. But he is in an ok position now if he wins his next fight. It is up to Diaz to show if he is any good. Same with Malinaggi.

I'm glad you mentioned what I highlighted. I noticed it too.

I thought Diaz won the first Malignaggi fight.
.....and I mentioned in another thread that a small ring aided him in that victory......

In any regards......Juan Diaz did'nt fight with the same fire he usually does....and it was evident from the opening bell.
He did'nt attack from the opening bell, and instead stayed at center ring trading jabs with Malignaggi.

Basically Diaz was trying to box with a boxer........and you could here Ronnie Shields his trainer telling him round after round, "you have to use your jab!"
.......what the hell did Shields think Diaz was doing? He was using his jab....but that jab was'nt allowing Diaz to cut the ring off on Malignaggi.

Diaz came foward jabbing, but Malignaggi had a beat on those jabs, and was easily working his own offense off of those Diaz jabs........

The jab was not working and Shields kept telling him he needed to use it as if Diaz had not already given it a try.

What Shields needed to instruct Diaz of was the urgency to tuck his chin in well, bob and weave, and force his way to back Malignaggi against the ropes and unleach to the body.

Diaz did alot of that in their first fight, but in this fight, he was stuck with obiding by his trainers instructions to stick to what was'nt working.

Force your way in, work the body, and the head will fall........along those lines is what Shileds should have been instructing Diaz, but it just did'nt play out that way.

    No,135 is his best weight.

He has trouble making that sometimes.

His body is just built that way, doesn't mean he ain't in shape.

He will always be a B fighter regardless of what weight he is in. He is just so overrated here in esb, after winning against Freitas.

I just think thats his body type and Im not so sure a move so far down at this stage is a good idea.

I cant say for sure...Im not in his camp and know what he is capable of making. But you cant doubt his conditioning for the most part and there have been many examples of fighters over the years that just dont have Holyfield physiques but are as fit as anyone out there.

Alot of ppl on this forum just dont get it about Diaz. He's not getting beat because he's undersized, or outta shape.... he's getting beat cause he's one dimensional as hell. And no, I dont think he belongs at 130. He's a natural lightweight. He's just not a HUGE lightweight the way guys like Mosley, Castillo, and Corrales were.
