Froch vs Taylor would be the one that would dazzle me of recent years. A fellow Brit vs an American in a massive fight within a super tournament would really get my attention in the build up to the fight. Then the fight itself had a bit of everything. A virtually undroppable fighter dropped early then surely way behind on the cards in the last seconds of the fight pulling a stoppage out the bag. I think if I didn't already love the sport that may well of done it for me.
my mom got me into boxing, she throws more hooks watching a fight than the fighters had to listen to it on the radio in the early hours as it was not screened live in the uk but coo ney v holmes was a true worldwide event i was about 15 at the time.
Najib Daho got me interested back in the 80s, he came into my yard once, just after he lost to Carl Crook, telling me how he never lost to Crook and how he was robbed, spent about an hour chatting to him, he came across as a real nice bloke, i was gutted when i heard the news of his death, and at such a young age. Been involved ever since.
My family has been watching boxing for generations. My earliest childhood memory is hearing the HBO B.A.D theme song every other Saturday night with my dad. The fighters who got me hooked into boxing were Roy Jones, Felix Trinidad, Fernando Vargas and Oscar DLH.
I remember watching a replay of Ali-Foreman on ABC, and watching the Ali-Wepner and Norton-Quarry fights with a bunch of relatives around. But I watched Ali-Lyle by myself at my grandma's house when I was 10. And for some reason, that hooked me. I'm not sure why. It wasn't a particularly great fight, but it did. I don't know which fights over the last 10 years would be the ones to hook a new fan. I watched the doubleheader between Kovalev-Sillah and Stevenson-Bellow with my youngest daughter a couple years ago, and I told her the winners were fighting each other next. She thought the winners were going to fight that night. But I told her they'd fight next. Now every time a boxing match comes on, she asks if Superman is fighting Kovalev tonight. And she'll stick around and watch whoever is fighting with me. But that might be hers (that Stevenson-Kovalev doubleheader). You never know what odd fight it will be.
My oldest son recalls hearing that HBO theme song with the bell gonging while he was in bed as a kid. He's told me on several occasions it's a fond memory for him. This one- starts about 3:20: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLsgIuswYdY
he used to fight about once a month ,saw loads of his fights genuine have gloves will travel fighter who would fight anyone at anytime. a journeyman fighter who nearly done a rocky , getting a world title fight by beating cowdell much harder to get a title fight then when only 2 belts and top 10 fighters allowed unless you were with don king.
That's a tough question, probably started with hagler. He was a hometown man and fought all the time. He was pretty good, idk what I'd think if I hadn't seen him everywhere in my much younger years.
