I understand you don't like this argument, but the reality is Hrgovic being ranked at #2 gives him a split typically reserved for champions. When in reality Hrgovic has yet to beat anyone of note. So it's going to be very difficult to get opponents in the ring with him who have other routes to a title shot. It seems Hearn and Sauerlands just want to take it to purse splits. Hearn threw millions at Martin to get Joshua to the front of the queue to get his IBF title shot. He doesn't look like he is willing to invest in anything to get an opponent in the ring with Hrgovic. The IBF should just make Hrgovic mandatory at this point. Actually what they should have done, is kept ranks #1 and #2 vacant, and I doubt we would see as much ducking of Hrgovic as the splits would seem fairer to most (60-40). But it's a hard sell to expect PPV names to take 25% to fight Hrgovic.
Exactly. You got it, Finkel. This is a problem with the IBF Why do this when it makes no-one want to fight their man??
It appears the IBF ranking boxlive had for December 13th (Hrgovic #2) is not in-line with that published on the IBF website on December 9th (#3). Until the IBF officially release their updated rankings, I am wrong on the split. If Hrgovic is #3 it would be 60-40 in his favour. I've updated the first post to make that clear IBF Rankings & Boxing Champions - Top 15 in Every Weight
I do not care about the split. And if it was 50/50 I guarantee you that Parker, Hunter, Ortiz and all the rest would still duck. And that's my problem with it. These dudes are not real boxers or warriors. They are business men first and boxers maybe 4th or something. How long do we have to sit and watch everybody avoid everybody?
All the sycophants in this thread who tore Ortiz to shreds when he turned down the Hrgovic fight two days after suffering a hand injury in the Martin bout ... and insisted Parker would take it ... now starting thread after thread trying to explain why a healthy Joseph Parker turned it down, too ... even though he has no injury at all. What a bunch of toadies. Was the injured Ortiz getting the same purse split the healthy Parker turned down? Where were all the graphs about purse splits when you were bashing Ortiz? Some in this thread insisted "A duck is a duck" in one thread ... and now it's "but look at Parker's purse split" in this one. The hypocrisy on this board is pathetic.
Actually I started this thread and my position on Parker is the same as my position on Ortiz. Both can turn down the fight if they want to get paid better elsewhere. But both should be dropped from the IBF rankings. Ortiz situation is a bit silly though as he actually took part in an IBF eliminator (which you yourself were hyping up no end) and then doesn't want any part of the final eliminator. It's especially strange if they would have ranked Ortiz above Hrgovic considering he just beat Martin who himself was the highest ranked contender.
You do realize Parker has a path in the WBO right? His team have yet to make a statement as to their reasons for not accepting the IBF route. But hey, at least Ortiz won't break another hand at that title shot you were so sure he was going to get.
All the talk of the unfavourable split with IBF is a moot point when there's no reason why they couldn't of hashed out a deal between themselves without it going to purse bids. Hrgovic is in a difficult position, sure he gets an eliminator but nobody is lining up to fight him, Parker as clearly the far bigger draw could of easily demanded the larger purse and got it knowing he could walk away from negotiations with Hrgovic if he didn't get what he wanted and when it went to purse bids could say there's no way he's giving Hrgovic 75% and walk away and nobody would blame him for doing so. But that's not what happened he turned down the fight that would of brought him a title shot sooner had he won without even attempting to negotiate and I personally feel Hrgovic is a more winnable fight for Parker than Joyce even if he should go the WBO route.
Nah it's not losing to the UFC. You're high. There's 20000 pro active boxers versus 600 at UFC top end 1200 MMA pro active fighters all orgs for MMA. Now lets take Heavyweight as that's what we're discussing here. Theres Ngannou. Miocic. Gane then who? I mean I follow MMA as well but I'M pretty certain most people don't even know who they are. Now boxing most people could name a at least a few of the Heavies even if they don't follow the sport. So if we understand that there's only 1/20 of the numbers therefore MMA is far shallower in talent. Now look at pay.... base pay per fight is $12k per fight with potential fight of the night bonus $50k and a few other trinkets. If your the champ and a big name you might get a few points on the PPV. Now if we look at boxing it's completely different lets look at a gatekeeper like Chisora who fought Parker. He got £2.5 million plus 50/50 on PPV. If we look at Joshua he earnt £60 million fighting pudding in the rematch... The UFC is well promoted but don't think for a moment that it beats boxing in any regard it doesn't. They might get a Mcgregor once a generation that can make the big money but everyone else earns a lot less than the elite in boxing that's just reality.
Well put. Too many men with dollar signs in their eyes. Businessmen: Parker, Whyte, Ruiz, Joshua, Hunter, Ortiz Warriors: Usyk, Chisora, Fury
Both tough fights but I would opt for IBF as they're the most professional body when it comes to enforcing mandatorily and I expect the quicker route. Unfortunately it seems Parker has ducked Hrgovic though.
