Which route would you take to the top with them?

And if you were to take the old fashioned route to the top, would you be tempted to skip the Commonwealth title?

But is the Commonwealth belt always worth it?

I would skip all those belts and after 18-20 pro fights go for a world title shot. This is assuming the prospect was very good. If it was an ok prospect then it would make him WBF, WBU, IBO unified champion and put him on sky ppv.

Actually I have changed my mind.

It depends entirely on who holds the belts, if it's a step up and a good challenge but a winnable fight then why not?

However, the most important thing is just to progress to a comfortable level where they are ready to compete at world level.

This should probably be after about 20 fights or so.

If the British champion, Commonwealth champion and European champions are all steps-up and good opponents then fair enough. However, if they aren't particularly good then it's acceptable to skip them all.

I'd only bother with the Commonwealth if the British title was blocked for some reason.

British, European then World, simple. Skip the commonwealth, and under no circumstances let him fight for the WBU.

Depends entirely on who held the belts, how available those fights were and which ones had the best risk/reward ratio.

I would do it the way Warren does it.
Hype the fighter up on mainstream TV, talking about how hes the next big thing then PPV, he gets KO'd on PPV like planned.
Then repeat with another kid. simple.

I suppose so, whats the point is faffing about with shitty domestic titles if you can make waves at world level. Vargas went for a title after 14 or 15 fights. Its like making britney spears go through x factor. Its like the olympic b/s and all the tripe about gold medal winners. Yes its nice but it is not the be all and end all.

If you got talent oozing out your poo then domestic and continental titles are not worth a thing unless you are german or italian and can get a euro title and defend it 60 times against bums.

Depends. I wouldn't have any route set in stone, its more about making the right fights at the right times. Facing an incremental advance in skill levels and different styles as well as some at least moderate punchers.

I would almost certainly start with the British title though. From there possibly the European, as it tends to boost rankings with certain organizations. Or if there was a winnable fight for any of the 4 major belts I'd look there.

From there it depends on your guy and the strength of the division. I'd probably get some challenging defences first before looking to unify. For example, I doubt it would be wise if you had Berto to throw him in with Margarito, Cotto or Williams.

Correct. What's the point in throwing your fighter into a world title shot after 15 fights if he's blown away all his other opponents in under 3-4 rounds? The figher needs to be built up and given a new but attainable challenge, each time out. Different styles and whatnot should be presented to him whist trying to garner the public's attention as to how good he is. I wouldn't rule out the Commonwealth as it would solely depend on the fighter who hed it. If he's better than the British title holder, i'd go after the Commonwealth strap.

i think the british route is good for building up your fighter.also british title fights are scheduled for 12 rounds;i think this is the best way to build up for world/european.The commonwealth can only be benefical if there are decent fighter in the commonwealth that will add depth to a fighters record. Also some commonwealth fighters (outside uk) can offer varying styles

I agree, but sometimes you get a better than decent challenger fighting for a commonwealth title. For me, it's not worth the risk. Also, there's too big a jump between European and World title standard in some divisions.
