If you were to judge Mosley based on the Mayorga / Cott fight (minus Margo fight)?

personally, I thought Mosley beat Mayorga's ass. I had him up 7 rounds to 4 going into the 12th and he was getting more and more dominant. Also, Mosley was landing all the really significant punches. Also, Mayorga was at 170lbs, Mosley 160. Mosley lost the first three rounds against a guy who was significantly bigger than him and then took over.

Cotto is a damn good fighter himself. Mosley fought him in the heart of Cotto's prime when he was probably at his highest motivation, since that was his first fight where Cotto really was gonna prove himself to the world. Kind of like how Mosley would probably have fought Berto at his highest motivation too. It was a close fight. You fight enough big threats, you lose some close ones against the toughest guys, no big deal.

Mosley did better against Cotto than I thought he would. Made it close, lost by a couple points on my card.

He looked bad against Mayorga, but in addition to Mayorga's weird awkward style, also take into account the fact that the fight was at 154. How often has Mosley looked good above 147? The Vargas rematch, and Vargas looked like a zombie that night.

Mosley is past his best but still a very formidable force at WW. He's surprised me a few times in the past so I won't write him off.

i love pac fans because they are so predictable an uneducated, i called this months ago that no matter who mayweather fights they are going to find ways to cut him down. Now the same people who were singing pac;s praises when the false reports were released of him agreeing to fight shane are the same people being hypercritical of a great champ like mosley to set mayweather up for a lose lose situation if they fight,EVERY BOXING FAN KNOWS MOSLEY IS A MUCH MORE DIFFICULT FIGHT THAN CLOTTEY, LEARN SOMETHING ABOUT BOXING AND EXPAND YOUR MIND AWAY FROM ONLY LIVING AND BREATHING THOUGHTS OF PACQUIAO

you left the key element out his new trainer.
In the dogs its not the dogs that bring the best out of that dog. Its the conditioner that brings the best out of the dog.

He worked with a new trainer for the Margarito fight and he actually used a gameplan vs Cotto/Mayorga he was flatfooted and often threw just one punch. You can tell it was time for a change. Vs Margarito he was doubling and trippling the jab when has Shane Mosley ever done that ?

Did they test Shane for Doping in the Margarito fight??????

Based on ESB's argument, you can not go from a so-so performance to suddenly dominate a very good fighter, because that raises a hell lot of question. It even raises question to a fighter who consistently does it, how much more for a fighter who basically lost his last two fights rpor to a dominarting performance.

Once again, was Mosley tested for PEDS?

What a lot of people forget, is that Mosley had a long layoff of about a year before fighting Mayorga. Add to that Mayorga's unorthodox style and size, Shane did not look that great.

One of the reasons Mosley should not go into a Floyd fight with such a long layoff, but I guess circumstances won't allow Mosley to take a tuneup fight.

FMJ has only fight once since his comeback a year ago. In terms of being rusty, i dont think Shane falls at the shorter end of the stick.

I thought Mosely respected Mayorga's style and awkward rythm a little too much early on.

I also think Mosely would have ko'd Cotto if he could have thrown the uppercut. but he did not see it. Or didnt have the corner to alert him of this opening.

If you watch the fight. You will see that cotto was open for the uppercut all day long.

Cotto eventually went on to get beat up by Margarito and Clottey's uppercut . You saw Clottey not even attempt to disguise it. He walked him down with uppercuts ? So many uppercuts on Cotto hard to remember.

Interesting observation. Considering Cotto's uppercut is one of Cotto's asset. Cotto caught Pac a few uppercuts. Surprise he's open in that area himself.

I think the fights with Mayorga and Cotto have more to do with how much we overlook Mayorga and Cotto than anything about Mosley. Truth is Mayorga is looked on as a joke since his knock outs by Tito and DLH and Mosley underestimated him as well. ESB posters just think anyone that loses a fight is a bum period. The truth is Mayorga is a very strong boxer and Mosley thought he could walk through him and was proven wrong. Cotto is a very skillful boxer. Mosley did the same thing. "I'm gonna make it a war," he said. He thought he could just walk through Cotto. He was wrong.
