double jab, straight right.i'll build a champion of him yet!

but seriously.i'd let him find his strengths and work on those so he's great at what he's good at and good at what he's okay at, if that makes sense.

I don't think that there is one right way to box. Rather your a boxer or a puncher or something in betweeen. There is no one right way to move and hold your hands.
I think the most important thing next to the basics like stance, punches and how to move is being comfortable in the ring.
I would make aware as I would for any one I trained if I was a trainer all the styles that I know of. Help him find the style that is best for him.
Like any one I trained I would refine and prefect that style as best I can.

I'd never make my kid do boxing, or even push him to it. It's true, champions need to start early, and no 8 year old is gonna wanna spar and do road work, so most likely nothing will come of them boxing wise. However, boxing is a sport where you take punches the head regularly, and it takes a piece out of you, no matter how good you are. No one can spar/compete for more than a year or two and come out exactly the same as they were before. The difference might not be noticeable, but it's there, and may in years present itself. If someone goes into it, they have to go into it, understanding the consequences and fully willingly. I'd hate to have even the slightest brain damage because my father forced me to fight against my will. That's a sad fate. If my kids want to fight, then they have my blessings, but if they don't want to (as most young kids wouldn't, after a hard day in the gym), then that's perfectly fine, as long as they bring home the grades.

Plus, at least one guy, whose photo is in this thread, started really late, and became the Ring Champion.

If the guy hasn't been sparring regularly or fighting then he wouldn't have a style, he'd just trying to mimick someone else and most likely wouldn't be very good.

Yes, but I always think you should start with the basic fundamentals all the way down to the basic stance, and then let them fight. Keep them on these basics, the boxer has to be built upon a solid boxing foundation or they will more then likely be one dimensional fighters. You must teach the boxer to let his natural ability be an enhancement to his fight game, not the basis

As a father I would watch boxing constantly and speak of Sugar Ray Robinson in the biblical sense, lose my job, beat my wife, my son and any other siblings he might have and tell him he's a worthless piece of **** that could never carry SRR's Jock.

Haha you're that guy in the avatar who posts those embarrassing videos of himself hitting a heavy bag aren't you? You don't have anything apart from bad habits, nothing about you is impressive so lose the ego and listen to a boxing coach. Do some sparring with a guy who's had a couple of fights and you'll see just how much you don't have in common with Mayweather :rofl Seriously dude, drop the arrogance and hard headed attitude if you want to be anything in boxing.
