If you were Judah's coach how would you have trained him to take on Clottey and what game plan would you have tried to apply. I ask because I am not sure there is anything that zab could have done. My own amateur opinion would have been to play the counter puncher against clottey; throwing combinations and then moving out of harms way... but i want to know what you guys at esb reckon. Zab is a talented guy... i think he is an absolute wanker, but with the right guidance he could perhaps sneak a decision against some of these tough welters
Zab should utilise his superios foot and hand speed, come in throw a combination and get outta there, he should never ever leave himself open to try to counter with a left uppercutatsch he would have to do a lot more dancing in the fight and force clottey to fight his style fight, Zab has superior abillities all he needs is to utilise them, quick combinations and run and block and counter Clottey when he gets tired and goes head hunting:deal
I would have had him watch Leonard vs Hagler. Let Clottey stalk him , hit with an uppercut, a fast 3-4 punch combination and then pivot and move away. Repeat and finish the rounds strong (leaving an impression on the judges)
Agreed - Zab's handlers have allowed him to be a 6 round fighter for his entire career and have never carefully monitored his conditioning and road work. It's amazing how easily fighters gas these days. If there were still 15 rounders, how many current fighters would be able to go the whole way? Pavlik? Mayweather? Maybe Calzaghe? Who else?
I would have told him to not try to stand pat and trade or counter, but to flurry and circle him so that he can setup to throw.
Theres too many similar threads, we have to understand this is how Judah fights, I was amazed that he had his stamina and didnt brake down in Clottey fight, but zab is zab he cant dance around and pot shot like Mayweather even tho he has better footwork and speed than him, he will still stand in front of his oponent sometimes no matter what coach he have, but thats why ppl still like to watch him fight. His father seems to tell all the right things: Jab, move away from that right hand, do combos in flurries, I doubt fighter can change his style of fight at this age, and I doubt even more that he would have same respect for other trainer like his own father.
i'd have him go through a grueling 8 weeks training camp consisting of hard sparring with 5 to 6 different sparring partners in each session, have him go through intense bag and rope drills where i push him to his limits, intense interval road work, HIIT baby, i'd also hire a nutritionist.
Dude needs to go down to 140 for sure and aim at Hatton atleast its more winnable, he could deffinetly make that weight, in 147 hes at major dissadavtage with the likes of Margo, Williams, Clottey
I would have told him to stay in my guest house out at the back for at least the last 3 month up to the fight. And then I would keep an eye on him 24/7. If I smell this distinct smell of herbs then I wouold call the fight off and tell him to gfh. The only problem is that his trainer probably doesn't like him enough to be around zab 24/7 for 3 month. I know I wouldn't want to do that as Zab seems (and probably is) a real moron. A week I could do if there was enough money in it.
