I like how Hennessy is promoting Fury, but at the top end he seems to run out ideas - Froch delays, Witter etc

FW - Prospects only fight every 3-4 months, but at the top end he does the business. However the lawsuits would put me off.

Maloney - Was Lewis a fluke? Other fighter Munroe etc done well

Hayemaker - New kids on the block, but what if Setanta fold

    Hatton/Calzaghe promotions - ????

Self employed - The Audley route

Warren. No doubt. Easy fights, lots of money. Just don't expect a great HOF career.

Henessey matches tough, as does Hayemaker. Hatton/Cazlaghe will have to match tough to get any decent attention.

Maloney matches fairly tough too. But I don't think he likes to waste his time with flawed fighters whereas Warren will build and build until he knows you've got nothing more left to offer.

Warren is not at all a promoter of the sport. He is more a businessman with an acute sense of timing. he has a strict template that he works to with all his fighters, If the fighter doesn't have the consistancy to match his template its very rare they have a decent career and usually disappear. Micheal Gomez and Carl Thompson been rare exceptions.

Well my boy watches boxing just now - albeit he's only 9 months old. Jake 'badass' Brown, look out for him.

Anyway, I'd probably advise him to go to Hayemaker. I like their approach, their honesty and I reckon they'll go on to be bigger and bigger.

Warren, as they make the most money. Warren fighters fight as often has any other promoter.

If you want to be as successful in boxing as you can, go with Hayemaker.

Straight into 6x3's, matched very tough as well - learning fights, for you to..... well..... learn.

None of this stupid 4x2's vs Eurobums like everyone else serves up on a regular basis.

Warren will make the guys the most money but has an ego and if the guy is actually any good and has ambition, will most likely end up stuck in the High Court at some stage.... don't need that.

Maloney is decent enough, did a very good job with Lewis. He most probably got him because he was willing to play the game that Lewis wanted, and they both made loads of cash out of it.

One thing I struggle to understand is the power that promoters seem to have. I always feel that a fighter should employ his promoter/manager to act on his behalf, rather than often the other way round as it seems.

I know a fair few boxers aren't the sharpest knives in the draw, but surely you can realise that someone is taking the **** when they get the best part of a quarter of your purse for doing next to nothing, plus the profit from the show as a whole?

    No?

4x3's arent that bad I dont think. For most the step from amateur to pro adds an extra 7 minutes as it is. Equivalent to another 3 and a half rounds of amateur fights. See no reason why a fighters first four fights shouldnt be four rounders. After that there shouldnt be a reason not to jump to six.

Agree with the rest though BB. I've always struggled to see why a boxer just doesnt employ a solicitor to negotiate contracts on their behalf? Fixed fee, pay by the hour and the boxer takes home the rest. Why the need to use Warren/Hayemaker et al. Particularly if it's a negotiation with another promotion company. They arrange venue, TV coverage etc. Solicitor negotiates best deal for his client and everyones happy!

I don't know how much managers/promoters actually take - I mean some fighters have both!

Trainer usually gets 10%, which is fair enough.... but I would want the rest for myself - I am the one getting punched in the face!

Once I got to a certain level I would do my own TV deal as well, rather than haggling for a %.

Lewis was probably the 1st guy to do this.... followed by Hamed (I think) and more recently Hatton, Haye, and Calzaghe in that order.

My cousin is a pro. His trainer takes 10% then his manager/promoter (same guy) takes 10%. He keeps the other 80%. But the manager takes all ticket sales, TV money etc.

    80% is pretty weak.

10% for the trainer is fine, but I wouldn't expect to pay any more than 5% to a manager, given that they are taking ticket and TV money.

If I received some of that, I wouldn't have a problem paying 10%.

No wonder loads of boxers don't want to take risks!

It's not that much of an issue at the moment given he gets a relatively low amount. But if the money we're to be upped I'd definitely be negotiating him a better deal!

Frank Warren, from that point of view.

Slow progression (you don't wanna see your flesh and blood counting lights early in his career...).

    Loads of money.

Better connections than the other promoters, seemingly.

I wouldn't be that bothered about by son fighting everybody on the planet and becoming a ATG. If he could make a good life for himself and had a good career I'd be happy.
