If you're an Ali fan this clip might make you angry

Jerry Lewis is an embarrassment. Disgraceful.

 

What exactley is objectionable about with Jerry in this clip? It was light-hearted banter during which Jerry put him over as a talented upcoming fighter, a great showman and deep down 'nice young man'. What more could he have said about him? The hitting and telling him to shut up was part of the joke - showing that Clay was a Gentleman and good sport.

 

He was obviously being a complete arrogant Ahole.

His final comments were a slap in Ali's face.

BUT this was how Lewis was ...a very egotistical arrogant ahole.

Ali wasn't revered at this time. He hadn't yet gained that kind of respect from talk show hosts. But it was great how he disarmed Jerry with light hearted humor after being yelled at. He could have made it weird, but instead made everyone happy at the end. That is the genius of Ali!

He was very disrespectful in just about every way to his GUEST. Everything from the hitting to calling of names to his degrading tone. But this is Jerry Lewis and how he conducted himself in those days. Arrogant egomaniac.

 

Great stuff back and forth .... Lewis was hilarious on that talk show. Obviously he and Clay were in on the joking. Ali did very well.....Jewis was absolutely correct in calling Ali a PT Barnum because that's what Ali always was and he learner by watching the Master: the wrestler Georgeous George.

 

I like how the guy totally ignores clay comparing liston to a ****** .. not the last time he'd call another black guy a primate

Nonsense....that was Jerry Lewis's schtick, and Ali wasn't nearly as thin skinned as you Ali worshippers...Ali was cool with it...he had a damned sense of humor....which is what you need.
