if youtube existed pre-1920, would Boston Tom McMustache be a star today?

Trained on a diet of beef marrow, warm ale and whale sperm. His road work consisted of 20 miles a day brisk walking in heavy sweaters and lumberman's boots. The bulk of his good physical presentation was due to vigorous rubbings by his seconds.

What prize-fighter could resist a vigorous pre-fight rubbing, when their delightful seconds looked this glamorous?

    They sure will. :yep

Hey Ears, you should upload your array of pictorial records detailing forgotten old school fighters to your "stuff" photo album on esb.

His bout with Fighting Battler was a classic back and forth technical brawl which makes Hagler v Hearns look tame. I've got a cut out from the November 4th, 1913 edition of the 'Pittsburgh Gazette' which tells me as much. Of course, Battlers team always claimed that the 3 week boat journey he made from West Africa to face off against McMustache hindered him greatly and was the cause of his 64th round stoppage. I'm not so sure thogh.

They said the same of their (relatively) short trip to France to fight Lucky Sambo, who stopped Battler in seven. :hey:deal

Managed to salvaged this from a parchment written by Tom himself:

    Ladies and gentlemen please rise
    Immediately for Boston Tom McMustache
    The worlds most renowned pugilist
If you would happen to disagree, perchance, I can only deduce
    You Must Have Not Recalled
When they stole my half crown in Belvedere
I'm reflecting on my whole career
    You Must Have Not Recalled
The best pound for pound is mine
Hit Sailor Jim with 4 hooks in one fight
    You Must Have Not Recalled
When I beat Slashing Stevens and won the Pugilistic Championship of America
The right was hurt, licked him with the left
    You Must Have Not Recalled
You remember the left hook Gentleman George got?
It's was a tactic that I quite often plot
    You Must Have Not Recalled
Will there ever be another Boston Tom McMustache? Probably not
Stopped Twiggy McTavish with a body shot
    You Must Have Not Recalled
I got disqualified in March of 1897
After giving a licking to Jersey Britton
Late hit, my title, they had to take it
(For what reason?) I believe that's the only way I could lose
5 days later, a rematch, I desire the crown
1st round, 1 punch and he fell down
Don't make me cross cause I'm irked already
Won championships against pugs who were not quite ready
The heart and soul of boxing on the East Coast
These other pugilists think this is a mere boast?
    You Must Have Not Recalled
And they have the urge to say I haven't fought anybody
I just make them look like nobody
    You Must Have Not Recalled
And Battling Bill he was terribly drunk
So I beat him without landing a punch
    You Must Have Not Recalled
    (Remember that)
In the squared circle I duke it out, there are none wiser
When I square up they respect my desire
To call me yellow, you would be percieved a liar
And I wont stop boxing until my opponent does retire
    I am Tom
You Must Have Not Recalled (x2)
    When I beat Sharkey McMalarkey
And took his Pugilistic Championship from him
    You Must Have Not Recalled
    My diet of mead
    You Must Have Not Recalled
    My tendancy to bleed
    We could repeat without conclusion
    Kid Babyface, Firemann Finn Finnarson
You Must Have Not Recalled (x3)

A better question would be, if Boston Tom lived in 2013, would youtube still be popular today? Considerably less so, I reckon.
