Daud "Good-Natured Boy" Alaev comes in with a 12-1 pro record after mixed but mostly positive results on the domestic and larger ex-Soviet bloc amateur scene (didn't really make it to global tourney level). His one loss to date was to a still yet undefeated Tajik. Romer "The Chosen One" Pinili from the Philippines is five years younger and an inch taller, with seven of his eight victories by KO - but has struggled when he fails to stop opponents (one draw and three losses to go along with his one points victory).
Round 1 Hard body jab from Alaev. Pinili responds with a double 1-2 into the guard. Alaev blasts him with a lead right between the gloves and Pinili grins at him. They circle and toss high jabs, both mirrored in a low arm stance. Couple of nice pendulums on the flanks by Pinili, right then left as he sags his knees to drop a level. Alaev is dancing around, popping the jab to keep range, and grazes with an uppercut from mid-range. They step together and both get a piece of each other with hooks, both partially blocking with their rear hands now wisely up protectively by their chins. Left hook scrapes the belly from Pinili. Alaev comes in hooking off the jab and Pinili nails him with an overhand right counter over his extended left arm. Alaev takes it well. Big swing and miss from Pinili with a left hook and follow-up right. Alaev circles away instead of punishing him with a counter. A few jabs scored to body and head by Alaev. 10-9 Alaev, close
Round 2 Pinili is standing pat with a high guard. Alaev baits him with a floating watch-the-birdie jab. Pinili bites with a telegraphed right and Alaev ducks away, reading his reaction. Alaev now starting to step in and change it up with jabs or hooks at different altitudes, testing for patterns. Pinili steps in and lands a couple of thudding body shots. Alaev gets a jab going, and is spearing in rights on the body as Pinili tries opening up to shoot past the jab. Now a quick uppercut from Alaev, countering one from Pinili after getting him to duck with a pair of high jabs. Pinili hurt. Alaev crowds in and slams a left hook flush on the liver. Pinili down and up late in the count. Big left hook downstairs again by Alaev, now countering past a wide desperate hook up top from Pinili. One more liver-crusher finishes Pinili, on his knees. KO2!!
