David Oliver Joyce vs. Stephen Tiffney, 10 rounds @ featherweight

 

Watching on my phone in a café so posting detailed RBR descriptions will be difficult. Level after 2, 19-19 first to Stephen Tiffney and second to David Joyce, both close. Good scrap.

 

3rd saw lots of sloppy clinching but also some good infighting and mid-range work. Tiffney working counter double uppercut combos to pry himself loose and putting together left hand and right hook two-pieces when they step apart. Joyce is spamming the 1-2 and slapping the body. Joyce edges ahead on volume.

29-28 Joyce

 

Tiffney doing some good on-the-fly switch hitting, landing effectively from both orthodox and southpaw with his counter flurries, but Joyce imposing himself with the 1-2 up top and skewering rights on the solar plexus. Tiffney blowing a little.

39-37 Joyce

 

@Russell @underwraps you guys bail?

 

Both are gassed. Joyce has a cut by his right eye. Tiffney affected by every right hand downstairs from Joyce but refuses to stop chucking return fire. Clinches are frequent yet brief. Both flurrying away hard up top but with little on their shots. Joyce loading up on his body shots, the meatiest stuff either is landing.

49-46 Joyce

 

Joyce now spending most of his time slouched forward, pointing his face at his toes, winding up huge roundhouse lead rights into Tiffney's side. Tiffney aims straight combos down into the back of Joyce's head but keeps getting backed up and winded by the hard yet slow and telegraphed body shots. Joyce down late, slip/push (Tiffney pinched his neck between his wrists and sort of flung him around)

10-9 Joyce

59-55 Joyce

 

Joyce keeps pummeling the left side of Tiffney, forcing him backward and tenderizing his spleen no matter how many counter lefts Tiffney sends down the pipw crashing into Joyce's face. It all finally takes its toll, one big scything right downstairs causing Tiffneys guard to drop altogether slack as he winces. Joyce pounces on him with a series of short left hooks and chopping rights on the face. Tiffney down from accumulation, bowled over and set on his ass by the ropes, legs sticking up. He rises but is driven around the ring, Joyce flurrying like mad. A right hand on the nosed jolts Tiffney and he is nearly down again. Bell rings and Joyce keeps punching while the ref was in the middle of waving it off anyhow.

TKO7!!

 

There was some concern about Tiffney, he was given oxygen in the ring but has made his way out, seems okay now.
