Ike Ibeabuchi : 16th Anniversary of arrest

Ike is a perfect fit for that article.

 

I heard from a guy connected at the time with Roger Bloodworth through boxing that Ibeabuchi was experiencing full blown paranoid delusions in his room in the weeks leading up to the fight, but his management team wouldn't allow their cash cow to be DQ'd by arranging for him to receive treatment.

Then there's the guy on this site who maintains he was a gentle soul who only went nuts as a consequence of him being unlawfully incarcerated and chemically sedated for some horrid amount of time. . .

Whom to believe? I have no idea.

 

Who to believe really is the question. I never knew the man so I cant say either way. Im just going on what I remember. He certainly wasnt all there to begin with. The link Kragz posted resonates with Ibeabuchi's symtoms. But again, who's to really say?

Head injuries can and do lead to psychotic disorders that mimic symptoms of schizophrenia, albiet on a rarer basis, given that it is uncommon to get whacked in the head by the likes of David Tua.

 

I think he could defeat everyone outside of Wlad, Vit and Lewis. I can see him running into jabs and straight right hands all night against Lennox and Vit. There is a possibility he gets lucky against pre-Manny Steward Wlad, there is no chance in hell he's beating Wlad after Manny re-built his confidence. Ike always seemed a little strange to me. I could never put my finger on it, but something wasn't right with Ike from day one.

 

I would have liked to see him in the ring with Holyfield. I think Evander would have also beat him, but we dont know how far Ike's talent may have taken him. An in shape Kirk Johnson such as the one who showed up for Maskeav would have been an interesting fight to, though I'd pick Ike to win there.

 

Just like all majors heavies, Ike was doing enhancing drugs.
Hence the behavior problems.

 

Very overrated by boxing fans, and a scumbag on top of that.... Look forward to his release and eventually deportation to Nigeria.

If he never had that fight with Tua, I think he could have gone on to be a champion. He may have lost a few times on his road to the title, but I think he would have been a champ one way or another.

That fight with Tua was amazing. But the real loss in that fight was the mental state of Ibeabuchi.

 

I think I'm the guy you are referring to but I never claimed Ike was a "gentle soul" lol I knew Ike from the day he walked into Curtis Cokes Home of Champions gym in Dallas fresh from Nigeria. Ike was certainly no angel but neither was he the monster some claim him to be.
Ike would have beaten both Klitschko's & a Lewis fight would have been a barn burner. Knowing both guys it would have been hard for me to watch though
To be given the max sentence 5 to 30 yrs for a supposed attempted assault on a hooker when she wasn't touched or harmed is railroading in my book
Ike spent 14 months in jail without being officially charged because they had to evidence only he said she said. He was kept heavily sedated the whole time because of what they FEARED he might do. That was the real cause of any mental problems Ike has now that's enough to drive anyone insane
Ike still swears he is innocent to this day

 

Have you any proof of this??? I saw him on practically a daily basis while he was in Dallas/Ft Worth all those years atsch I never witnessed any drug use.
