Little chance he can be competitive again but let him try by all means. The sentence was a joke all considered.

Maybe, if Lennox could stay away. Ike would crack that glass. And, no way Lennox keeps up with Ike's workrate.
Which was kind of suspect, incidentally. He barely tired in the Tua fight. How was that possible for someone his size?

You are a ****ing idiot. Ike did have a previous run in with the law where he crippled a kid. You believe that the is innocent for no other reason than you want to. **** off.

As for Ike coming back, if he can get licensed, why not? He has no other contribution that he can make to the world.

I say lets get him in there with Oliver McCall, another iron chinned, power puncihng psycho over 40.

Hell, how about a Tua rematch? He'd probably win.

I remember thinking in the first few rounds of the Tua fight, how in the hell can anybody win rounds against a heavyweight that big throwing 100 punches a round with good power and accuracy. I haven't seen that before, or since.

People keep referring to him as "big." He was 6'2" with a measly 76 inch reach. He may have been broad shouldered, but in the measurments that count, he was average for his day, quite small for today.

People's memories of his size are probably exagerrated because his big wins were against diminutive Tua and Byrd.

I was not convinced that he could have gotten inside of Lennox in his prime, and am not convinced that he could have gotten inside of Wlad or Fury if he shared their primes.

He also hadn't reached his peak yet. He was still developing as a boxer. I definitely think he wouldn't have handled the Holyfield of the time. It would have been interesting if Cokes could of had him working in head movement to get inside against good, taller opponents.

    Good level headed post.

Ike never fought an elite big man, he had an excellent fight with Tua but let's be honest Jeff Wooden nearly beat Tua a few fights later and both Lewis and Byrd beat him much easier

C.J., since you've been working out in Curtis Cokes gym and withessed his 2 Top prospects Ike and Kirk Johnson Id like to read some inside stories from you :good

How hard they trained? Was Ike mad as many describe him or he controlled himself well?

What Cokes was thinking about Ike as a possible future HW champion?

And what are your thoughts about Ike's future had he remained free?

He was already #1 IBF contender by 1999. He beat top-5 HW in David Tua and Chris Byrd in their prime (Byrd then went on to win 2 titles and was HW champion 2002 till 2006).

Most likely, Ike would've fought Lennox in the late 2000 instead of Tua.

Would've been a great fight. 50/50 for me. I think if the fight goes full distance, Lennox wins, but Ike could've scored a stoppage win as he was far better than Rahman.

Anyway, it's so bad that Ike's best years in boxing were completely wasted.

When Tua he was fatter, and could no longer throw 100 punches per round.
That was in essence the last night Tua was in shape enough to be a real title threat.
Tua put on weight after that. Most of the time post Ike he was not in 100% shape. He had a few fights, but most of the time he either had too much weight even if sometimes it was muscle. Above 230 he wasn't a championship quality fighter in the late rounds like he was when he fought in the 220's.
