He get first rounds out boxed by Byrd and Tua won half rounds against him http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7RTZILQHzg&feature=related
Byrd was a very good heavy, great defensively and a southpaw to boot. Ike would always struggle the first few rounds like pretty much anybody. He lost rounds to Tua because he went toe-to-toe with one of the biggest heavyweight punchers of the modern era, and constantly got caught.
Sugar Ray Robinson is overrated. He gets full fight beaten by LaMotta Jake and five round lose to Basilio. [YT]AVr8GEn5yJA[/YT]
Byrd is talented, but Tua has never been technically talented fighter. He should have atleast outbox Tua easily if he would be that talented fighter
Noone in the sport's history is going to have an easy time with Tua fighting almost entirely on the inside and banging it out. In fact not many would survive, period.
Thats true, if someone is so stupid or not enought skilled to get away that. Tua has never been most skilled fighter
we will never know I know one thing though. I remember in 1999 , frank maloney saying that there was no way he would put lennox in with him. what this means is there was no way the fight was happening until ike was really marketable like miike tyson
Yes and i saw youre never boxed! Ike get hit all the time and happily not Lewis or Klitchkos..his skills are overrated
The bottom line is that he was 23 (I think) when he went to prison. That means that he could potentialy have continued to refine his game and peak at say 28 or 30. Of course he could also have imploded. You might suspect that he was bound to sooner or later. We will just never know.
Agree, we never see his prime time. His boxing record and his video records are not good enought to think that he would or could be next superstar Something is missing
