Pehaps a similarly interesting historic case is Luther McCarthy.

He was killed in the ring at the age of 21 at which point he was already the most exciting of the white hopes.

Give him another five years and he could have been the best of them by a fair margin.

Another fighter that has been compared to Ibeabuchi is Henry Flakes.

 

It is a phenomenon throughout boxing history.

From time to time you get an incredible young prospect who is removed from the scene aged 21, 23 because he dies or is jailed or whatever and there is always the lingering question.

"Was he the next big thing"?

Perhaps some of them were thwarted greats. I am sure that some would have been big disapointments. There are more disapointments than legends in boxing.

 

How can anyone say a fighter is overrated if he never even had the chance to reach his full potential, i say for where he was at the time of his incarceration he did some bold things in the division, Ko'ing Byrd heavily and having an all out winning war with a prime Tua..... I don't get it really......

 

You can't fault someone for going into the trenches with David ****ing Tua and the fight being close. Who else even remotely fought Tua that way with any success what so ever?

I think Tua beat him. Ike just won the rounds HE won bigger, but numerically i thought Tua won more rounds, and he staggered him.
