Ike Ibeabuchi is overrated

I've been saying this for years. Ibeabuchi is one of the most overrated fighters by boxing fans. He had two - count 'em, TWO - fights against live bodies, one of which he arguably LOST, and yet is perceived as a world beater. At best, he's a prospect with a couple of decent victories, one of which was highly debatable.

It's exactly this sort of thing that leads people to say he's overrated. There is absolutely NO justification off of TWO fights against decent opponents to say this guy is even CLOSE to either Klitschko.

 

He didn't outbox Tua, he stood and traded with him for ten rounds, that's what impressed everybody. If nothing else Ibeabuchi was tough as ****.

 

Here's the problem with the hole thing. We are talking potential so to say that you can't say that he was close to either K2 brother off only two fights then by that same standard you can't say that he wasn't either........I even went as far as to captalize POTENTIALLY to make that point clear.

 

He's a half baked nutcase who could fight. Just like Golota.

 

Ike two wins over Chris Bryd and David Tua are impressive in the fact he adjusted to both styles and beat both at their own game. Bryd and Tua are two completely different fighters but Ike stood his ground and was able to win a decision and score a TKo.

 

Overated compared to what? Or is this just an attention grabbing headline? Ike was a VERY good boxer. His career was short but he bested two names in their primes Tua and destroyed Byrd. Other than that we'll never know. But overrated? Hardly. In this era he would win a title easily.

The thing is that Ibeabuchi showed that he had the makings of what the next great champ could have been.

His win over Tua and Byrd showed that he can adapt to different styles and has the durability, discipline and talent to beating different kinds of fighters.

These are guys who Ike would have beaten.

Vitaly, Wlad, Lennox are the question marks and really up for debate. But the above names were top contenders most of which held a belt in 2000 onwards. I would make him a solid favorite against those guys based on what I've seen from him. So no I don't think he's overrated because he had the size power and tools to become a great fighter. There is nothing he showed in the ring that suggests otherwise; he was simply an incomplete work in progress.

Every fighter at some point gets overrated, as long as you don't go overboard. He had the tools but his shortened career relegated him to a great prototype as opposed great champion. Take that into account and you should be fine.

I agree pretty much. The question mark is his diseased brain. I'd certainly favour him over all the fighter in your list as well, barring a melt down in the ring. Admittedly that's not something we ever saw happen but the guy is a nut after all so it's something that's worth speculating.

 

Lewis beat a washed up David Tua. Ike beat a prime Tua.

Chris Byrd went on to clown Vitali Klitschko and a few other top flight heavies after being thoroughly destroyed by Ike.

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that if Ike didn't go to jail he would have tore that division a new *******.

 

:deal you are on the right track here. Of course we are talking potential but all signs pointed to him being the next dominate heavyweight. I still say Lewis would have been better than him.

 

Lewis could have beaten him had they fought in 2000. But he would have been in a hell of a fight.
