Ike Ibeabuchi v.s Riddick Bowe

Like mentioned before, Bowe is on another level, and Ike wouldn't be able to deal with it.Bowe wins UD Ibeabuchi, with Riddick winning 9 out of 12 rounds.

 

Ibeabuchi isn't Holyfield despite many people comparing the two. Holyfield was quicker, threw better combinations and had a better jab. I see Ibeabuchi giving Bowe a tough fight mainly due to Bowe's desire to trade but Bowe earns a decision 8 rounds to 4.

 

Prime Bowe beats the **** outta Ike! Honestly Ike is one of history's most overrated fighers. He LOST the Tua fight for Christ sake, I dont care what the judges say.

Bowe would tear him up on the inside with those uppercuts of his, and I see Ike getting stopped in the late going.

I cant phathom how some people think Ike could beat a prime Bowe, and a prime Tyson off of getting a gift decision to Tua.

 

Bowe might take a decision, and in truth should probably be slightly favored due to a more proven history against the better men, but he'd have to take a hell of a beating to get there, and he'd also have to be at his very best.. I can't see the man who fought Andrew Golata beating Ike, but I might be able to see the man who beat Evander Holyfield barely pulling it off.

I swear the myth of Ike is something ridiculous.

 

my scorecards had Tua winning teh decision by 2 points - so i was kinda shocked when Ike got teh Decision.

BUT - v.few ATG Heavys beat teh 1996 Or 1997 Tuaman IMO - so there No-shame in losing a v.close WAR to him.

 

Bowe.

Ike is crazy overrated. He has a great chin, but besides having that, all he did for 12 rounds to defeat Tua is work. I saw nothing besides toughness and stamina that I would deem great in Ike. I do mean that.

Bowe, while not the greatest heavyweight, DID have great boxing talents and some great skills. He can more than keep up with Ike as a fighter, and prime for prime, Ike's advantage in toughness and stamina doesn't come into play enough for him to make a grab at the fight.

 

I'd go with Bowe but it would depend on his ability to take a punch.

I suspect Ike has a stronger chin, so a toe to toe inside punch up would likely favor Bowe in terms of landing punches, but since somethings going to be coming back at him, he has to be able to not just give, but to receive. He did show that against Holyfield, but Ike likely hits harder.

 

I dont think Ike is overated, he only had 20 or so fights, but he showed the grit and chin to hang in with an active Tua, and the handspeed, power and patience to catch Chris Byrd. I dont think he was polished enough to compete with Bowe at his best yet, but he sure showed a ton of potential. Certainly more than what weve seen in a long time and he had those certain intangibles that would have given the Klitschkos nightmares if they couldnt hold him at bay. He just wasnt a finished fighter when he went nuts but he was looking like a very good prospect.

Prospect, yes. I do agree, he had a ton of upside.

But seeing as he never got to any of it, and guarantee's don't exist in boxing, he doesn't get credit from me for the ATGness he never showed.

 

Based on what ? The guy took the best of the best Tua ever. He showed an incredible chin and the ability to go a fast twelve under very tough conditions ... he also showed the speed, timing and discipline to KO a prime Byrd, not jab him to death like the Klits but to flatten him ... I feel Ike was an exceptional talent that was wasted. His wasted talent was a huge loss for boxing.

 

He showed me a lot in the Byrd fight. He showed patience and showed what he could do when he put the right punches together. He was close. I heard he was struggling a lot with mobile boxers in the gym though. His stablemate Kirk Johnson was giving him a lot of trouble.
