You see Tua probably did hit harder than Marciano, and probably was more durable, but that is all he was.

Apart from that he was a poor mans imitation.

If he had Marciano's mindset, then history might have been different.

You've answered your own question then. Save us from these insipid giant bores! Will you please, rise once again Son of Abruzzo! With your dinosaurs arms you will chop these prosaic brothers who are holding the division hostage with their jab & grab style; these Neanderthals want nothing more than to eradicate HW pugilism as we once knew it!

At this point Wlad is just too good for his own good. His effectiveness is mundane. But he's almost 37 and his run is almost up. What will save this division is if the young studs fight each other more often and don't wait until they are 32 years old to make their big move. This is almost entirely the problem of promoters and managers.

In regards to the thread, Ike is just too big, too active and too strong. I know Marciano was more elusive than given credit for but he wasn't 1/10th as elusive as Byrd. And Ike certainly found him. And for all the pop in his punches, he didn't hit as hard as Tua, nor was he any more active. And we saw how Ike handled Tua.

Marciano is backed into a corner of tangibles and his intangibles ain't pulling this one out.

Briggs spent a whole lot of time lifting weights in between those fights.

Wasn't a 1/10th as elusive as Byrd? I beg to differ Byrd was slick but he was being very arrogant in the matchup and got caught. In any case Marciano wouldn't be back against the ropes slipping punches he'd try to weave in close and unloaded bombs, something Ike had no problem allowing Tua to do, even initating it at times. Although maybe Marciano didn't hit as hard as Tua he had a much bigger range of punches, was two fisted AND CERTAINLY more active. I rewatched the Tua v Ike fight after seeing this thread and Tua wasn't anything special throughout in terms of workrate. No where near Rocky, most of the action was done by Ike who was landing about 4-5 shots to Tua's 1. In seeing the fight however I think Ike's jab will be key, very long, accurate, strong and just constanly thrown even over 12 there was no sense of Ike becoming arm weary.

The comment about Byrd and his elusiveness in regards to his fight with Ike is a silly one, especially considering the circumstance of that result, which Maxie outlined. But it is silly because it tries quantifying boxing. Scenario X happens here, therefore less elusive Y bargains for the small result. It's not even stylistically adherent to the matchup. It's simply "This guy is less elusive and smaller and thus this will happen." Might as well be saying a swarmer can't beat a puncher, but at least that's a boxing truism to an extent, regardless of its simplicity. Honestly, was Byrd being elusive when Ike caught him? Yes, under that same condition if Marciano gets clocked like that he's going down. I don't see him acting aloof and backing up to the ropes. And it's not like Ike was tricky or a cutey.

If Rocky loses, might as well boil Frazier, & Dempsey automatically losing because they're too small, less powerful, and will get out-worked. Never-mind their superiority or quality as a fighter.

Marciano's lower center of gravity, ability to not get hit too cleanly by the big shots, in-fighting, punching angles, and workout will have him win a decision. Of course, Ike's got a good chance. He's big, strong, got a good work-out and might be too much of a size & strength gap but I'm counting on Marciano's underrated ability and intangibles to have him edge Ike. Marciano is a far better in-fighter than Tua. Just watch the Layne fight (Yes, he's no Ike).

So you think the lil guy is going to push around Ibeabuci? So, Marciano, all 5 foot 10, 180 pounds of him with the arms of a 6 year old is going to be the boss and create distance over this guy?

Tua averaged 65 punches a round in the fight... against a giant, hard punching modern superheavy who was throwing over 80 punches. How many punches is the wee fella going to get off under those circumstances (against the time of fighter he never faced) before completely breaking down?

In regards to Ike versus Marciano, it is as predictable and inevitable as the sunrise... Marciano is outmuscled, outpowered and beaten down in 7.

I think there is a reason why Ike's career did not pan out, he was most likely a drug fueled PED abuser who was never going to hold it together long enough to go down as a genuinely great fighter. To beat marciano ike needs to a great fighter not just some up and comer showing potential that was never realised. sure ike had some great attributes and ring generalship but how much of it was enhanced? was it sustainable? was the side effects of this unnatural creation the lack of personal control that ruined his life? if so -if it was aside effect - then one could not be realised without the other. if the enhancement was as responsible for the not holding it together as much as his ring attributes then i am afraid there is nothing to go on. he was not a great fighter. marciano was.

Proof that greatness in one era does not translate to greatness in another... at least not in the heavyweight division.

Where is your proof that Ike was on PED's? And which PED, exactly, enhances ring generalship? Questions 'enquiring' minds want answered.

Ike like Wlad is a destroyer of ATG's based off a win over Chris Byrd.
There is no blueprint to suggest either beats the Blockbuster.

To be fair Marciano would probably be slightly heavier and taller if he was going to be reborn in the 90's when Ibeabuchi was around. Ike's resume' is incomplete due to his truncated career.

Even with an extra inch in height and 20lbs. of muscle added to his frame Marciano is still shorter and much lighte than the 6'2" 244lb. Nigerian fighter. Ike was not a blown-up heavyweight either. He probably trained down from the 260's or so to become more lean. This is essentially then a cruiserweight vs a bonafide modern heavyweight.

Yes, Marciano was tough as heck but he is still only human. Ibebuchi doesn't have his consistency and mental stability but he is much larger and stronger with excellent speed and power. That said, I think this an unfair fight and Marciano will not last the distance.

    Ibeabuchi by late round stoppage

Ike Williams in an ATG, also. Does this mean he beats Ibeabuchi?

If power and reactions have been enhanced to an unnaturally unobtainable level with PEDs. i would say that would enhance whatever ring generalship that was already there. roid rage exists. i have seen it. ike was most likely juiced to ****. i think that is fair to say.

All evidence lends towards IKE being a juicer, even the rage outside the ring but Ike Beat Byrd and fought pretty even with the 5"9 Tua but I was not overwhelmed by him, he had some cracks that were exposed outside the ring and IMO those cracks were not Marciano proof ....Great is great and good is good, not matter the size or drugs but could you imagine Marciano on ROIDS, not that would be a turbo-pit-bull if he was not already
