Ike Ibeabuchi faced David Tua back in 1997, in a bout that set the CompuBox record for most punches thrown in a heavyweight fight (they threw a combined 1.730 punches). Ibeabuchi won by Unanimous Decision, but some (me included) thought the fight was a lot closer than the official scores suggested (the judges' scores were 117-111, 116-113 and 115-114) and even scored the fight for Tua. For the record, HBO's Harold Lederman had the fight 115-113 for Tua. How did YOU score the fight and do you think Ibeabuchi's win was a just decision? There is also a poll :good :thumbsup :good
I thought that Tua landed the harder and more effective shots...what a great fight that was though!! I really liked the ring generalship from Ike, but I thought Tua came on strong in the later rounds and took the fight 7rds to 5
I scored it 8-4 with Ike clearly winning. I liken this fight to AM-Williams as I told you before. Ike came out fast and commanded Tua's respect as Williams did with AM. Tua, like AM came back in the middle rounds with some hard shots, and Ike, like Williams closed the show, and imo left no doubt as to who won. A clear win for The President.
Guys, google this fight. If you honestly thought Tua won, I'll give away all of my points to you...but you have to keep it real. Don't google info on this fight and act as if you saw the fight. If you truly thought Tua won, then imo you didn't see this fight in my eyes, and that is no disrespect to you. At least it isn't a total/blatant disrespect lol...
it really depends on what you're looking for when scoring this fight. If you're paying attention to the harder and more effective shots, then I think you would have to say Tua won that fight by a round. If you are looking at higher punch output and ring generalship, then Ike won the fight by two rounds. Very difficult fight to score. Depends solely on what you prefer from this style of fight.
Credit to you for starting the thread. I just hope we have enough people who saw the fight to truly comment on this great non-title fight. :good
I can respect that. Ike wasn't throwing feather fist punches in there either. I truly can't see how Tua won the fight. Ike hurt Tua to the body, and I never saw Ike hurt. Each time Tua opened up, Ike would come back effectively...and this is rounds that the announcers thought Tua did well in. I have a hard time going with Carlex who is a respectable poster on this one being a draw, but if you have a gun to my head, and are twisting my arm, a draw is as far as I go:rofl
Ike was a hard puncher and had a good chin, but if you say Ike never got buzzed by Tua, you should watch the fight again...objectively.
