Fred Fulton had a better resume than Ike. How did he get on?

Roberto Duran had a better resume too. How would he do?

    @bean: I'm fine thanks.

DEMPSEY & goatprimocarnera is not fine, but infact has diluted his brain with so much love of size (yes,he is a size queen) that his opinions are laughed at and scorned in the very streets in which The Bronx Bull made his rep and Teddy Atlas to this day waits once more for a chance to once more slap around goats hero supreme Mike TYSON

Obviously I have to say Dempsey based on what we know.

Was Ike capable of being developed into something better than Dempsey?

Perhaps, but we never found out.

This is a fact Duran had a better resume. However, Ibeabuchi and not Duran was in the same weight class as Fred Fulton.

Dude, you got some fantasy  You´d read my critics about Tyson too? Placed me at the very improper place of the apple (not the big one), but I give you creativity

If I´m in love with size, what about the Carnera posts?

I´m approving the same standards like the recognition of weightclasses, when its totally normal to consider differences of about 8 pounds as beeing relevant for fighters, but utterly deny any weight-differences when it comes to heavyweights. In other words: Its totally brain dead. Makes no sense, absolutely nilch.

The fighters back then did not fight in a heavyweight devision, it was indeed a 190lb Cruiser Devision, some fighters even less, some fighters a little more, avaraging below 190lb for Joe Louis, Dempsey and Marciano. Its a fact. Similarly, their resume is not made of the same numbers equal to the heavyweight devision above the 80s. Mostly, you can devide it by 4-5, or even more: They rarely fought a big man with skill. Avarage men were shorter and lighter these days, earths population was below 3 billion. We have been through all of this dozens of times. I´m tired of repeating my self for things every child could understand.

And yes, a fighter can overcome a weight disadvantage with the suitable stylistic matchup and skill.

But putting a small fighter relying on sharp power (or plodding stamina wear you down power: Dempsey, Marciano or Frazier) against iron chinned even more power fighters like Tua and Ibeabuchi, who demonstrably brawled out 12 high pace frightening rounds for a new record, is hard to beat in any therms of logic.
Especially for fighters who evidently had problems with good moving fighters, always coming forward with nearly nobody matching them in power for a brawl in modern times. But yes, I guess Dempsey, Marciano and Frazier would stick and move their way to a decision too :drooling::copas:

@choklab: You´d recognize Fulton had already four losses to nobodys the time Ibeabuchi was unbeaten, beating the **** out of fighters, ending fights with bodyshots? How many times did he get knocked out in his 17 losses? Does he have any ability comparable to Ibeabuchi too? Its the same as always, putting random oldschool fighters on the same platform as fighters extremely proven in special abilites.....

Would Fulton be allowed to swing his resume at his opponent?

No, but it's the best way to gauge a boxer, because how good they look is often so dependant on how good their opponent is. Plenty of boxers look world class until they fight world class opponents.

Ike is a mystery but he had a fine win over Byrd and held up well with Tua (may have lost) but Ike was a candadate for the early steriod use of the 90's Golota was another that may have juiced?

Ike short circuted outside the ring but guys like McCall did it inside the ring (Lewis 2) I dont know if it would have happened to IKE?

Based off those 2 wins it would only be a strong guess how he would do vs Dempsey or other greats

Sure. I guess fred would swing that resume right at Ike just as hard as that crazy ass Nigerian can swing his rumourd PED enhanced thin as fukk resume back at old Fred.

Ike smashed up a prime Byrd and beat a prime Tua at his own game. He was clearly a fearsome puncher and a fearsome fighter. We might not have seen enough of him to gauge how well he stacks up against other modern heavyweights, but we know enough to say that he'd be odds on favourite against any crude LHW from the pre-steroids era.

Ike never stood out until the Tua fight. Why was that? Nobody was going crazy for him until then. Couldn’t do nothing with Marion Wilson one fight before meeting Tua. Wilson lost 20 fights. Went the full distance with Ibeabuchi. What was going on? Where was this extra class shining through?

There was nothing incredible going on in ikes career before fighting Tua. He’s fighting stiffs just like every other 16-0 prospect with a manufactured record. Only he’s going the distance with some muppets and sweeping unremarkable characters everyone else beat.

Then the fight with Tua winds up being a very entertaining fight, but let’s not pretend he was the finished article then. Sometimes you can get two huge hittters together (that are used to fighting stiffs) and they realise it’s much harder to set up a real money shot against another man who matches them for anticipation and reactions. So they settle for workrate rather than quality. And to be fair, it’s always a much better fight that way.

The comparison with Ali v Frazier was always crazy. Those guys were trying to take each other’s head off. And they were further into their careers at a higher level. The fight Ike and Tua produced is the kind of fight Ali and Frazier would have produced if they were younger and earlier on in the development stage like Ike and Tua were. Still entertaining to watch but not enough experience or quality to be as damaging as the fights Frazier and Ali did have.
