Dempsey comes in fast, walks right into Ike's wheelhouse and starts to chop away with short uppercuts to the body and head while holding Ike around the body and trying to drive him backwards by main strength. Ike covers up and either pushes him off completely, or just enough to get room for his own thudding shots, uppercuts and bodyshots. Dempsey continues to drive forward. Referee likely has to break them up once the action stalls.

Dempsey repeats his tactics and encounters the same resistance. If he starts to feel Ike's power or is getting caught rushing in then he begins to bob and weave, and modify the frequency and timing of his rushes. He might also try some manoeuvring on the inside in order to free up better punching angles, maybe a bit of wrestling to try to throw Ike to the canvas, especially if he finds himself unable to match his strength in a straight bullrush.

Sooner or later the tide turns as Dempsey begins to realise the futility of his tactics. Ike begins to stalk him and maul him with heavy body shots and uppercuts on the ropes. On the outside Dempsey starts to get increasingly reckless, throwing wilder shots in higher frequency. At some point the pressure begins to tell and Dempsey gets caught with something big coming in and hits the canvas, or gets badly rocked, whereupon Ike begins to unload heavy artillery on him and forces the ref to step in.

I think the fight takes between four and seven rounds to complete, depending on Dempsey's tactics and adaptability. He might also alter his gameplan based on what he already knows of Ike. If he goes in blind, the fight might be over even sooner.

It doesn't matter if the other guy can't get up for 10 seconds or 10 minutes. It's still a knockout. Foreman knocked Frazier down 6 times but wasn't able to "separate him totally from his senses". You're position is inherently flawed at best. Willful ignorance at worst.

Got any record of Ibeabuchi breaking someone's jaw? Yet I'm sure down the line somewhere it happened. Are you saying Sharkey was uncertain of how hard Dempsey hit?

You have a fundamental misunderstanding of not just boxing but fighting in general. What causes the knockout. It doesn't take much to knock someone out. A middleweight could knock out a heavyweight if they wanted to. Chris Arreola, whose taken and delivered more punches in a training camp than you have in your entire life, thinks a welterweight could knock out a heavyweight. Is everyone wrong and you're right? Not a chance. You're the one in the wrong here.

It is. You have this superman fantasy going on in your head that Tua and Ibeabuchi not only hit the hardest but have impenetrable chins. You can't have it both ways, its a paradox. Like some sort of immovable object against an unstoppable force.

You see this is your problem. You can't just take something at face value. You have to apply it to the entirety of a broad subject.

Nobody was engaging you on your position in the first place.

That explains your bad reasoning skills.

Oliver McCall never walked through any top heavyweight puncher's punches for 12 rounds. If you recall, he was stopped on tears by the 5th round.

It’s too much work for the people saying “there are weight divisions for a reason” to understand the reason. You need far less boxing knowledge to just disagree with somebody’s informed theory on the basis of pounds, inches and six packs. If any idiot no nothing can masquerade as being knowledgeable just by saying “there are weight divisions for a reason” they are going to continue to say it.

Which is exactly why the name cruiserweight should be changed to “heavyweight”. We can’t be calling heavyweights cruiserweights when the Superheavyweights have taken over the heavyweight division.

It needs to come in line with Amateur boxing. We can’t be calling Muhammad Ali a cruiserweight. It’s just wrong.

That’s a very good post. We need more logic like this around here.

There are weight divisions for a reason.

If he had grown up on a farm, he would have been used to do heavy manual work from his early teens - thus developing tremendous natural strength.

He would most likely have big, muscular arms and a thick neck. A stronger and much bigger version of someone like Sam McVea, would be my guess.

Speak for yourself. Your logic on 1950s heavyweights is bias and agenda driven

What about the lazy "Fighter A wins because he was 'greater' than Fighter B" posts? Those require the least amount of boxing knowledge or understanding.

He did get up though. Multiple times. Dempsey could have saved a lot of time and effort by just knocking him unconscious, couldn't he?

So Dempsey broke Sharkey's shoulders and hips? Good to finally clarify that.

    Uh huh.

Please don't tell me what I believe. Thanks.

No, I'd rather not apply a knockout a fighter got in their teens before they'd ever turned pro to anything they went on to achieve as a professional.

You asked me a question. I answered it.

So everyone can knock everyone out, weight classes don't matter and chins and punching power are totally interchangeable. Brilliant debating stance you've got there.
