Weight divisions that have been skipped up and down since their inception.

Check again....maskaev and rahman were top 10 rated. And Ruiz had plenty of fights and wouldn’t be knocked out for another 12 years!

Weight divisions are man made. At one point the division was a minimum of 160 lbs. The division has always been unlimited for a reason. At any time they could have made a separate division for the oversized fellas. It wasn't until the 21st century that they said anyone under 200 lbs is at an overwhelming disadvantage to the super heavies. If you go back and check every title exchange between major heavyweight champions you'll find that the smaller fighters took the title from bigger guys more times than the bigger guys took it from smaller guys.

He’s more like 225-230. Hit the scales uncharacteristically light for his last fight because he’d been sick, apparently. Even then, I’m sure he came into the ring heavier.

Why would he have come in heavier tho? Heavyweights aren't cutting or anything. Might have been a couple of pounds max if anything.

In the instance of this particular fight, natural rehydration and replenishment as Wilder recovered from his apparent stomach issues. Also, Wilder is known for going out and eating big pasta meals after his weigh ins fwiw.

If he'd been having stomach issues eating sizable meals would have risked a Roberto Duran?

I'd also think he'd be replenishing well before post weigh in. There's no limit.

Fair point. I guess it all depends exactly when he got sick (and assuming it wasn’t just an excuse).

Where i am heading to is that a guy around 220 can well and truly compete with these big guys. Wilder just did. He also showed enormous power at that weight.

He was cited in here recently as a SHW. I openly chuckled as it's obvious why this was embraced.

Incorrect. Wilder has weighed below 220 lbs, 20 times in his career. He's weighed over 225 like 7. His average weight for his last 7 fights is 223.5 lbs. Hasn't weighed over 225 in 2 years and has gotten smaller and smaller every fight for the last 3 fights.

Never weighed 230 once in his career.

Cool, but I seriously doubt that more than maybe one or two people in this entire forum would disagree that an explosive 220lbish man with extraordinary length and power could take out some decent superheavies.

There seems to be a weird strawman floating around that people here only think that super heavies can be beaten by other super heavies.

Except I couldn’t care less about Wilder’s weight. Again, I don’t know where it comes from exactly but the straw man that no 215-225lb fighter could ever survive against super heavies no matter what is a strange one.

Show me the last 185 pound power puncher who made a dent in the heavyweight division. Wilder is a freakin' giant, a massive dude by all measureables but weight (and even there he is more than giants like Firpo)...
