A focused Ike versus a prime Mercer... could be interesting...

    So who takes it?

Ike was ready for a guy like Mercer before he went off the tracks. I think he would beat Mercer. He was big and strong with fast hands, and he could outfight Mercer who would engage him. Id go with Ike by decision or late stoppage.

  3. very good fight.
u would have to give the edge to Ike, at least i wud, based on workrate and speed.
he also had better conditioning and stamina .
Ray fades late and drops a decision .

Yeah... this kinda where I'm leaning as well.

Although Mercer is competitive and makes it close I think.

  5. After Ike eats Mercers shots early on , he will get worn down, when Ike ends up taking them , and giving back .
Ike's combos too, were very nice aswell

True... Mercer has a good gas tank on him though I think, and stood up to Lewis' power in a war.

Ike did throw some pretty nice combos.

  7. He did stand up to Lewis's power , but it was lewis's first time with stewart ,
and it was 1 very small ring .
Mercer really faded agianst lewis too , and was starting to get desperate when gettin outboxed ,
    by Damanai.
For me , Mercer was too inconsistent , against inferior opposition .
For wat its worth, Ike annihilated almost everyone he faced, outside of Tua , who never did get stopped.
You can say , Ike didn't fight the opposition of Mercer ,
but Mercer never did fight Byrd or tua either .

i think ray on his best night could slightly get a UD
over ike (also depends if it's 10 or 12 rounds). but,
yes, it has to be ray on his best night cause other wise
he's too inconsistent. the ray mercer in the bert cooper,
lennox lewis & evander holyfield fights was a beast.
this is a good match-up though.

Ike by decision. Come on! Ike was way better than Mercer and Mercer was damn good. Ike Ibeabuchi was one of the biggest wastes of talent in boxing history. A damn shame.

A close decision either way. This fight would end up alot like Ike's fight with Tua: A freaking war.

Damn fun to watch, one guy wins close. I wish this had happened, it'd have been another all time great heavyweight fight. Two guys who threw serious heat, came and got it, and didn't back down, with toughness to match.

If I had to pick and bet money, though, I'd bet Ike, simply because he demonstrated better stamina. I could see him, with the fight being even through 10, picking up the pace in the 11th and 12th, where Mercer tended to lose a bit of steam, and stealing the win home.

Oh yeah, I definitely agree. Ike was a waste of talent.

Damn I wish this fight had happened, it would have been a freakin' war.

Mercer seemed really inconsistent in terms of performances, and against Ike, I can't see his power being too much of a factor. Ibeabuchi was big, strong, and if he could take Tua's short compact punches really well, then you'd have to favor this fight to go the distance. Perhaps a case of Ike wanting it a little more, and outworking Mercer, who was both inconsistent and known for going to sleep in some of his match-ups.

I'd certainly buy a ticket, though.

  13. it is 1 "reasonable",

Ike took Tua's shots. That is proof enough for me that he had a strong chin. With chin not a factor, Ike outworks Ray who can't keep up with Ike's pace for ten or twelve rounds. Ike by 7-3 decison or 8-4 if it's a 12 rounder.
