I truely believe that Margarito is the most over rated fighter of the past 10 years. He is a limited fighter, and for whatever reason he is build as this guy that no one wanted to fight and that isnt true. Margo has turned down alot of fights. Ike would jab him to death.
Lopez was a big banger that won some rounds late after being outclassed early. Tony is overrated in the power department, and is more of a mauler that wears fighters down. Not many one punch knockouts. Althought that one vs Andrew Lewis was NASTY.
I voted for Margo because I thought it was a "present day" scenario. If it's prime for prime I'm taking Quartey in a clear UD.
Jose Luis Lopez was better skilled and just as strong as Margarito, if not stronger and tougher. His chin was better than Margarito's, and maybe even better than JCC'. JLL also had the better power. I like Margarito, but JLL is better in every department, except that he may have burned out too quickly since he started boxing at a very young age as did Margarito. But something was missing in JLL; however, I can't put my finger on it. Anyway, Quartey by UD.
You are forgetting that Lopez had a very long string of tomato cans early on in his career and also throughout. That certainly helps to boost his KO percentage. He wasn't put in as hard as Tony was early on. And I think when Lopez did finally step up he lost anyways. One thing I would say about Ike is that his punch was central to his gameplan. He needed a guy who he could make respect him. Ike's turtle up defense could be problematic against Tony because Tony is the kind of guy who will just hit you anywhere he can. I bring up Wright-Soliman again because I think this is important. If Tony takes Ike's best shot this becomes a very difficult fight for Ike. He would ultimately be forced to open up more as Tony would amp up the punch volume. If Ike could not get his respect he'd be drawn into a battle of willpower. You simply cannot stand on defense all night and let a guy like Tony beat on your arms. It'll wear you out. One way or another Ike would have to get Tony's respect or he'd be in for a long night. In a battle of willpower I could see Tony winning it. He's a tough, tough man. I think Ike would ultimately succumb if they were to slug it out. Granted, this all depends on how well Tony takes Ike's best punch.
Lopez may have been fighting tomato cans early on, but anyone who can put Yory Boy Campas on the canvass is a badass. Not even Tito did that although he almost sent Campas' head into the 10th row. From what I have read and heard, Lopez' biggest problem was that he wasn't that dedicated when it came to training. I know, I know, it is his fault and I wholeheartedly agree. I also don't know if you have seen Lopez vs Page. Anyone who can stand-up to that hellacious beating Page dished out in the 4th or 5th round is one very tough badass. I don't know of too many boxers who could have withstood that attack, and that includes Margarito. Anyhow, I still think Quartey takes this one. His jab and his peek-a-boo defense would let him fight in spurts that would neutralize Margarito. Too bad we will never know.
Ike keeps that worldclass jab in Margo's face all night long and Margo has no answer for. Ike wins by wide UD.:deal
Ike should win but I have to agree this would be much like the Lopez fight, in which Ike was dropped and seriously hurt, Margarito wont let him off the hook if he drops Ike, look at it this way, Ike was dropped by Winky a few times sure some were bogus but the point is When does Winky drop anybody? hell he couldnt drop Vargas who has a suspect chin. Ike is past it there is no way that Ike wins IMO if the fight goes late, Ike can do enough damage with that jab early to break Margarito down later but its highley unlikely every fighter that has pushed Ike back has had their way with him, Margarito will push Ike back.
