I dove into Quartey's career not long ago and made a effort to watch all of his close and disputed decisions.

I have absolutely no idea how anyone could score the Forrest fight against him. I might of given Vernon 3 or 4 rounds. The crowd went friggin' ballistic booing the decision at the end, and Ike stood on the ropes and stared down at he judges, lifting his hands up in the air and basically wondering what the **** was going on.

That was two weight divisions up from where Quartey started against a fighter who's become better with age in Vernon Forrest.

Rewind a few years and you've got Quartey exploding into the spotlight by destroying a 31-1 Vince Phillip's. More or less Quartey was the first man to beat Philips, as his first "loss" was due to a cut in a fight he was winning.

Almost exactly a year after being annihilated by Quartey Phillip's would beat Kosta Tszyu.

    Beyond that?

You've got Quartey taking a prime ODLH to the brink and in many fans eyes beating him.

I find it impressive, his success during such a short peroid of time against fighters of all kinds and the breadth of his wins. He undoubtably deserved the wins against both Lopez and Forrest. Even when he was knocked down against Lopez the rounds weren't 10-8 ones, they were 10-9's as in my eyes Quartey got up and easily won the round.

    Absolute boxing/jabbing clinic.

So if you give him the benefit of the doubt those three match ups he has 3 seperate wins over some of the best and most dangerous fighters of the 90's, not to mention a win over the man who beat the man in Vince Phillip's, and other solid wins.

    Thoughts?

many? I would say only some. Oscar scored a 10-8 12th round maybe 10-7, so theres no way ike could have deserved more than a draw with that type of last round...with the other rounds being so close.

But I agree wholeheartedly with the thread, ike is very underated, he probably would have beaten moseley and tito at welter. I think he got horribly robbed against forrest, a fight ike easily won.

With his amazing jab, boxing talent, speed, and snap on his punch......he makes a very tough welterweight h2h at his best.

I don't think Forrest has got better with age.

He's looked a mediocre fighter ever since and including his meek performances against Mayorga.

I've scored it for both on different occasions, very close, and I have scored it for Quartey more often. However, I had Oscar beating Tito, which is better than anything Ike did at the weight. Even so, Oscar is the least accomplished welterweight of the 3 I mentioned. Trinidad is the most, and I had Oscar winning. He's relatively close to all 3, but he'll be remembered as 4th best as he should.

Nonsense. That fight wasn't even hard to score.

You have to be generous as hell to DLH to give him the fight....by one point. Give DLH 3 of the first 5 rounds (that's being nice to DLH). Quartey took the next 4 rounds. You have to give DLH the last 3 for him to win the fight.

On the subject, Quartey was a very good fighter. I think his own inactivity hurt him. It's pretty hard to face someone on the caliber of DLH after not being in the ring for nearly a year and a half. And then he takes 15 months off to take someone the caliber of Fernando Vargas...at a new weight class.

Then he took 5 years off.

At WW definitly but talking p4p than no he is not. There were too many better and more accomplished fighters around. I always thought high of him and liked him pretty much, hope he won´t get broke like so many others.

I don't think I've ever seen a poll on that fight with DLH winning it.

BTW, I scored the fight a draw at 114 a piece.

I had Oscar a close but clear winner over Ike. However, I do agree Quartey was an excellent welter. H2H he is better than he was p4p, his achievements never matched his talent. I think he'd have given Tito a severe test at 147, same with Mosley and Floyd.

    I thought Quartey won clearly.

I'd have favored him over Mosley and Floyd, though I'd have taken Tito to stop him in the mid to late rounds.

Why was he inactive for that 15 months and then five years? Injury? Personal problems?
