Good topic unitas. I hope others haven't responded here because it's too hard to pick a winner. That's my reason for not posting here (until now).
wow thats tough..Id take Quartey...hes just more proven IMHO. Brown came to prominence by shocking Norris..lost most of his big fights aswell..while Quartey has been battling top comp for years.
You don't count Brown's 7 defences of the 147 title then the unification winning effort right after? Brown was actually in decline by the time he fought Norris. It's a tough one to pick tho, agreed.
Brown was actually on the slide by the time of the Norris fights Chimba. He had a decent run as a welterweight champ actually, beating the likes of Tyrone Trice, Jorge Vaca, Maurice Blocker, Bobby Joe Young, Mauro Martelli and a few others. He did lose a lot of big bouts (McGirt, Starling and Norris ) but he was arguably not at his best in any of them, and really, is it any worse than Ike Quartey's performances in big fights?
Although you should never go on the evidence of just one fight alone, Ike's fight with Jose Luis Lopez sticks in my Mind, When the Lackadaisical Lopez Slipped Ike's Jab, Came inside ansd opened up, he Floored Ike and had him looking very Flustered under Pressure, Simon. at his Best could do it better, and Sustain it, and Simon's Left hook was Wicked and he just kept Coming, I dont bthink Ike wouldlike this Hard Hitting Pressure from Simon, It might look a little like Simons Thriller Victory over Tyrone Trice, I just dont Think Ike can take his own Bullying Medicine, Simon by late Stoppge or Points for Me.
Brown had one helluva left hook. It wasnt quite as devestating as Tito or Cuevas' hooks, but it was still a devestating punch. I think a prime Simon catches Ike late and stops him, maybe Ike has a chance to hold on if its a 12 rounder. If its 15, I pick Brown w/no hesitation.
