Quartey one of the few Welterweights who may be able to jab with Hearns from the outside despite being only 5-8. Hearns still has the advantage in height and speed. Quartey was physically very strong with heavyhands himself.
Hearns would be the favorite. Anyone see an upset here?

Hearns outjabs him, consistently, if Ike gets aggressive Hearns times him and decapitates him.

Would be a one sided fight in favor of Hearns. Ike hardly wins a round imo. There also a massive chance that Hearns sends him flying to the floor almost unconscious.

This is a case of an ATG versus a very good just shy of great fighter. I will take Hearns but Quartey was always a tough out for everyone that he fought. I see him giving Tommy a good tough but losing effort.

Lots of guys tagged Quartey over his jab. He was landing jabs and always getting countered. Hearns would do it early and it'd be all over quick. Once hurt, Quartey does not have the tools to avoid getting clipped some more. Ref would be waving it off.

And Ike threw that weird oddball right hand whenever he did throw it. I love Hearns to land that devastating left hook to the body when Ike throws that sloppy right hand.

I wouldn't bet on it. I like Hearns big time but I don't think anyone ever had an easy time with Quartey. He was damn good.

Thomas The Hitman Hearns takes out Ike Quartey, KO 7. Ike gets jabbed silly, then a dynamite right cross ends the evening for Quartey.

My own view is that Hearns would outbox Quartey for the first half of the fight but pay a toll in the process. There would be exchanging of jabs and Ike's power left would take some of the zip out of Hearns legs.
Both physical and mental pressure Quartey applies wears Hearns down. Ike ends it in the 11th.

Hearns takes out Quartey in 3-4 rds if that. Not saying Quartey wasn't a very good fighter (He was) But what he did best played right into a strength of Hearns . His head being very stationary and that come forward style would prove disastrous for Quartey. Hearns's would punish Quartey with that laser like jab, keep him at a safe distance, Qaurtey never faced anyone with the height and reach of Hearns ,would he have the ability to even get close enough to Hearns to do any damage? Hearns would follow one of those jabs with that super quick, powerful straight right hand and the fight would end with the ref doing a full ten count standing over Quartey.
