watched a couple of his fights after seeing this video. Looks painful, enjoy for those who havnt seen it. It looks like this guy has been robbed multiple times in his career by the looks of his bio, goes inactive when things dont go his way. I believed he beat de la hoya but lost, so far thats the only fight ive watched where he lost. Im a new fan:happy [yt]H_HwYguqgaQ[/yt]
His left jab was as hard as some guys straight right hands, one of the single most effective punches in the history of the sport.Dont agree that he was robbed multiple times he had a couple of fights that could have gone either (Oscar & Forrest) but neither one was a robbery, his other two losses against Vargas and Wright were pretty clear losses, hell of a fighter though who could have been better if he didnt take so many big layoffs between fights which might also be one of the reasons why he used to fade late in the fights, it wasnt always his fault though he once had a scheduled fight with Whitaker but whitaker failed a drug test and the fight was canceled, a shame really cause that would have been one hell of a fight between two of the best welters of the 90's and a great battle of the jabs. would have loved to see him against Tito too.
Best jab ive ever seen and his fight with odlh was a welterweight classic just wish him and tito woulda got it on
As good as any other jab I've ever seen. There used to be a disgusting ****** on here who claimed Calzaghe had a more effective jab than Quartey. Thankfully I think he has been expelled in shame since then, truly one of the most imbecilic comments ever made. Quartey could hurt, punish, dominate, and break down fighters with his jab alone. Right up there with Hagler and Sweet Pea for me (all three used their jabs differently, all three were magnificent).
Watch his fight with Park, some of the jabs he lands are just sickening. Park's face was very badly damaged & he never fought again
Amazing jab. His and Holmes are the best of my lifetime (I'm 36) by far. I narrowly had ODLH edging him in what I consider ODLH's best moment as a pro, but can see an argument for Ike.
Quartey was a badass. Too bad everyone avoided him after he creamed Phillips. Loved the Oscar fight, two great jabs head to head :smoke
Very overrated fight. Two very good/great rounds. The rest of the fight was a staring contest with few punches thrown and even fewer landing.
It does get a bit overrated just because rarely did the top guys at welter meet in the 90s until Oscar moved there and started cleaning house :smoke They respected the hell out of each other. Quartey wouldn't throw a decent combo to save the fight :tired
battle of the jabs, both guys had a great jab, it was close. Excuse my use of the word robbery. I was wrong.
Yeah maybe a bit but i just loved when oscar dropped ike he got up and was like so thats how you wanna play it ok then BANG oscar goes down
