The Tua and Byrd wins were pretty impressive. :think Pity he was so insane. From his wiki page: Ibeabuchi developed a new persona based on his nickname, "The President." At times when he was being churlish or refusing to complete a simple requirement such as attending a weigh-in, his handlers would appeal to The President's regal nature by convincing him it was the noble thing to do. "There were times when he thought he was really a president," boxing promoter and former [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HBO"]HBO[/ame] Sports executive [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lou_DiBella"]Lou DiBella[/ame] said. "He would get into these mental states where he insisted on people calling him The President. It was his alter ago, where 'I am The President,' not of the United States, but maybe the world. lmao I was like lmao
This thread comes up now and againg, and braeks hard between those who say he would ahve knocked out LL and become a dominant champ, and those that say that squeeking one out against Tua and beating another badly undersized champ in Byrd proves almost nothing. I go with the latter camp. Ike deinately had the power, chin and volume to knock Lewis out, but Lewis always excelled against guys whom he had some respect for. And Ike just enver beat anyone as big as Lennox to give us a frame of reference. I think Ike could hav ebeen a good champ in the post Lewis era, and him and Vitaly would have had some great fights.
I wouldn't believe anything coming out of Lou DiBella's lying ass lips. A fight between Ike and Lennox would have been very exciting and competitive. Ike would have beaten the robotic klits and taken the belts from both sisters. He could easily have out boxed, hustled, or out slugged either of the two goofy giants, and goofy Valuev as well.
He couldn't have been great. Mental stability is a form of talent he lacked. It's like wondering how good Tyson could have been if had been a mentally stable fellow, but he just wasn't. It's not like Ike had everything to be a great fighter but unluckily was insane, he simply didn't have it in the mental departement. Ali, Lennox, Holmes wouldn't have been great with Ike's mental state.
He wasn't the most skilled but he turned up top shape and was absolutely ferocious. He was kind of like a better-conditioned, better-chinned James Kirkland.
For the record, in all his 20-0-0 fights, Ike never displayed any mental breakdown or decomposure, even under the intense pressure of the David Tua fight. Interesting that the main culprit in accusing him of this is the same scammer Ike's Mom accused of strong arm tactics.
Ike was 100% nuts like a gay porn I think he would have been a perennial contender, not sure if he's champ material. EDIT: By "Champ" I mean actual champion, not titlist.
In today's HW division, he'd easily have been another titleholder. And most likely in some excellent fights. Whether he'd beat the K bros is another discussion but he'd give them a fight like no one else is able to do.
Ike would've gotten smashed by Lewis or Vitali, probably Wlad too (certainly current Wlad, the more reckless Wlad would be beatable). Him and Tua top the "completely overrated H2H" list, suiting then that they went life and death with each other.
